Actually Islam is even more than that.
In the Hadith, Mohammad says to effect:
"I've been commanded to fight all mankind until all humanity has embraced Islam and become Muslim (living by Sharia).
This is not an agenda of compromise, or "live and let live".
It is, in short, a prescription for perpetual warfare, when the resources and times allow; when they don't, wait and build up for the next opportunity.
This plan has only three possible paths of resolution;
1) Islam eventual prevails and the entire of human kind, the whole of the planet has been converted and under Muslim rule. All humans either Muslim, or tax paying second class allowed by related but subordinate religions of the Book; or are slaves of Muslim owners.
2) Islam is defeated and becomes a dead religion with few or no believers.
3) Somehow the texts and precepts, the scriptures and dogma are changed, have a "Reformation" of sorts, that invalidates the global conquest and conversion agenda, and becomes more "ecumenical" in allowing other religions and atheists exist.
A footnote here. Per Islamic dogma/scripture, their Paradise(Heaven) is made of several layers or levels. The lowest one is obtained by the "peaceful Muslim whom lives by the five principles, but doesn't engage in Jihad - Holy War. The higher levels (getting out of the basement of Paradise), with increasing luxuries and rewards, can only be attained by physical Jihad ~Holy War of conquest and conversion of the infidels. The more killing, destruction, conquest, looting, enslaving, converting a Holy Warrior does, the higher their placement and rewards in Paradise.
Islam remains a disturbing and hostile factor in the future for humanity and the Earth. In some ways, finding the alterations, conversions, adjusments, whatevers to make it really peaceful and compatible with everyone else on this planet may be our real and largest challenge going forward.
P.S. - Another key factor to consider. Per Islamic scripture/dogma, Allah told Mohammad that the revelations, that would become text of the Koran/Quran are "His" final words to mankind(Humankind) and are to remain unchanged and unaltered until the 'end of time'. There will be no "reformation", no later prophet with an update or revision, there is no alternate interpretation other than what is literally said. This makes #3) above a bit problematic. Basically might require 'Allah' to show up and do the changes/revisions/updates/whatever ...
