Most KKK members I've known were hard-core Southern dimocraps. I know' we had an active chapter down here in SW Florida when I first moved here. The Sheriff was a member. He and most of the Rod & Gun Club.

In 1978 we elected a Republican Sheriff and he disposed of them, post haste.

The KKK was founded by Nathan Bedford Forrest to fight REPUBLICANS. Specifically Carpet Baggers.

The overwhelming majority, I mean 99.9% of Southern Blacks, were Republicans back then. It just so happened that they sometimes got caught up in the political warfare. It took the KKK over twenty (20) years before they lynched their first Black Man, and that was for being a Republican. Before then (I think it was in the 1880s) they were all white men. Republican white men.
