My rabbi stopped talking to me for quite a while after I asked him if G-d was actually good. Many of the things in Torah would get a modern person arrested for things like murder, felony vandalism, kidnapping, rape, etc. So to me, those aren't 'good' simply because a god tell you to do them. And are more like what we'd call 'evil.' So can an evil deed become 'good' if G-d okays it?

Using a recent example: Is persecuting homosexuals, arresting them, imprisoning them, or even executing them 'good' because G-d says to?

is there a distinction between the Almighty and the Everlasting ?

sure, and if you make it to the Everlasting just tell God you are going to take over .... the Deity will truly understand your righteousness over what presently is and step aside.

good luck

religions like Judaism and christianity have heaven and their deity barking orders and proclamations like a Soviet version of communism..

I had the same problem...

I regard the bible as largely ancient myths. So what it says about God does not concern me. Because I do not think the bible is the word of God. As for the quran, it makes God out to be a sadistic monster, and as far as I am concerned it was all made up by Muhammad.
If God really is the source of the bible and quran we are all in big trouble.

The bar is set so high that no one wins...

I'm guessing a text was stolen and changed by Mohammad from the captors he killed which makes it more confusing than that. The information provided by Bowman seems to suggest that to me and it makes it problematic and may cause problems for people in the last days.

Given the recent persecution of the LGBT community by the religious set, asking if G-d is actually good seems reasonable to me. How could a 'good' deity have worshippers that are decidely 'not good?'

I could provide a less science based or biased answer if the ark had been found which housed ancient stone tablets with burnt writing of unknown origins.

Without that its hard to get passed that the sources you mentioned were authored by men. Its gets even more diluted when the element of Constantine's editing choices are added to the New Testament.

does not exist = neither good, nor bad

keeps dumbasses from getting too unruly = good
causes separation and wars = bad

So, I don't know.

I don't know why promiscuity is promised in heaven if it's such a sin here on earth. Seems odd.

is the path to the Everlasting dependent on the Deity or is it the Deity prevents those who otherwise have accomplished the feat from entering due to philosophical or political reasons not of the Everlasting but that of the Deity ?

or is what is being asked is not about God - but rather the above interpretations that throughout history have failed in the True meaning of the Deity's intent.

obviously, Judaeo-Christian-Islamic are not syncratic and therefore by their own existence proof of their collective failure.
