I've never seen anything like this, as far as debates go. If all of these Republicans would only attack Dimocrats like they are going after Trump, we would probably win every election.

As for the OP's question, as long as the Dimocrat party exist, and is full of the miserable disgusting fucks that are there now, then there will ALWAYS be opposition no matter what you want to call the party.

Well, my opinion is this:

The GOP is reaping what it helped sow (with one hell of a lot of help from talk radio over the years). The GOP fanned the flames of massive discontent within its ranks and ginned up the hyperbolic rhetoric like a perpetual Chicken Little mantra until almost anyone listening would have to come to fear that the nation was on the verge of imminent collapse. They did this to keep the base ginned up for elections, of course, but because of talk radio hosts who had their OWN agenda (an agenda motivated more by a desire to make a ton of money than by any kind of noble cause whatsoever), it developed into nonstop perpetual fear-mongering. The end result was incredible disappointment in the minds of listeners which shouldn't be surprising because the GOP couldn't possibly deliver on its promises and probably never really intended on doing so in the first place. The GOP thought they could control the monster they were creating, and like the fictional Dr. Frankenstein who had unleashed forces he did not fully understand, they found out that they had misjudged the pliability of the base that they had so often manipulated for their own ends.
