Is "Government" an Obsolete Concept?

...Government almost always acts in bad faith and regularly imposes it’s will by the use of force. It’s rules are often arbitrary and unevenly applied...
... government creates a mess, through fake news, rioting, the way they spend money, through interference in our lives, they create poverty in the USA...
... is there something that government does that is actually beneficial to citizens and society at large?
It's really easy to complain mindlessly about governments but there are a few salient facts that remain:
  1. Humans form governments, it's what we do, whether it's in the family, the neighborhood, or the region;
  2. Out of every say, thousand people 999 are just fine & mind their own business --that other person will try & kill the other 999 & we need to protect ourselves by joining in maintaining order, aka government;
  3. It's horrible to live in an area where the government disappears because when it does there's mass looting/chaos & in a short time (a week or so) the majority reasserts itself forming an ad hoc government.

Is this an effort to justify all the harm committed by government?

You ignore the elephant in the room. Government does so much harm. It’s enormous. Yet you think the little they do right justifies all the harm. Crazy!!!
The government is a net benefit to society or it never would have lasted. You people who are baby with the bath water about the government are just too far removed from the problems the government quietly and thanklessly manages every day.

you forgot wastefully and inefficiently

Well sure, government has to do so "good" in order to justify their existence.

After all, Al Capone ran soup kitchens for the poor. It is just a matter of does the good outweigh the bad in order to let them remain viable?

Better than the alternative. We have far more social stability than we ought to have with so many poor people and so many guns.
Government is a necessary evil at its best and an intolerable one at its worst.

If we treat government as such then it will work as intended

Not even close. Government commits far more harm than good. I’m amazed we argue over something so evident.

Government is what we make of it. Tying to tear down the whole thing seems to be the answer to those who don't want to do the hard work of fixing things and cleaning up messes.

Delusional. Government is completely co-opted and controlled by big corporations and ultra wealthy. You must know this. How could you not?

The government certainly does harm but it is the single most potent force for good at our disposal.

Yet it is the only means we have to confront the power of the plutocracy.

Until humans ALL learn to govern themselves individually, unfortunately, government is a necessary evil.

Oh brother. Really? Government is controlled by the plutocracy. Now you’re just making up shit. LOL.
The plutocracy has too much influence but they do not have total control. It's not for lack of trying. All the tools and levers to rebalance the equation are just sitting there waiting to be used. Getting rid of the government would only remove the very rich from any obligation under the law not to harmfully exploit the people and the earth.

In the USA for example, is there something that government does that is actually beneficial to citizens and society at large?
Well, when people live in a fantasy world, it's hard to get along and function as a society.......and I hate govt more than anyone, but I also know what anarchy is, and that is far worse.....it's why I mock commies who think utopian socialism is achievable.

The problem is if you don't have govt, you have Anarachy, like Mad Max..........and the only people that are stupid enough to believe it could work, think human beings are good people at heart.......humans are awful. You can read the Bible, you can read papers from the Founders......they all said how bad humans are innately.......unfortunately govt is the way to prevent Anarchy
