Is a shutdown breakthrough in the offing?

The House passed a bill. Trump was ready to sign it. Democrats in the Senate decided to shut the government down instead of voting for the bill. That's just the facts.
The Democrat allied media knows this. the CNN talking heads would be happy to support the Democrats in shutting down the government. They would praise them for being strong, even in the longest shutdown ever because of the very important reasons for the shutdown. Whatever they are.

But when they interview, Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries and other democrats, they all insist that it is the Trump/Republican shutdown.

Media Democrats squirm when they interview those elected Democrats. Jake Tapper is particularly humorous to watch. He cannot bring himself to play along that it is anything but a Democrat shutdown. But he is way too deferential to democrat politicians to do anything but politely ask questions.

But Trump’s going to own it because he’s the president and it’s a GOP congress

That’s all people are going to remember next November

And If you think the average voter knows anything about 60% vote in the senate or anything like that, then you’re vastly overestimating the knowledge of your fellow Americans
How many fellow Americans are there left?

Freshman Senate Dems and House Republicans to on bipartisan ACA plan

Two Senate Democrats and two House Republicans are planning to huddle Friday over a possible bipartisan plan to extend soon-to-expire Obamacare subsidies, according to four people with direct knowledge of the matter.

Centrist Senate Democrats are working feverishly to hammer out an ACA framework in more detail to give Democrats an off-ramp to vote to reopen the government.

Can a solution be found despite Don's efforts to keep the government shut down? Even if congressional Repub's and Dem's reach a compromise will he sign off on it?

I don't know. But it's encouraging to see some discussion going on.
There have been discussions throughout the shutdown. Question is among who?

Those two Dems and two Reps Politico mentioned are pretty obscure.

Spending bills must originate in the House and the Speaker has vowed not to bring the House into session until Dems stop filibustering the reopening of the government.

On November 21st, he may gavel it into session for the limited purpose of passing a clean CR identical to the one currently being stalled by Dems but with a new end date. If he sets the end date for mid or late January, it will be hard for Dems to filibuster again.

Stop lying, this was ALL ABOUT Schumer and the Democrats shutting down the government to extend OBAMACARE SUBSIDIES period. They are now directly endangering US Citizens with their latest abuse of power.

Democratic leader offers deal to reopen federal government, with 1-year ACA tax credit extension

Or, one could say this is all about the Repubs shutting down the government by refusing to negotiate on.......anything.

Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer on Friday offered a new plan to Republicans that would allow the U.S. government to reopen after a shutdown that began on Oct. 1.

Schumer’s proposal calls for Democrats to agree to pass a so-called clean resolution that would provide short-term funding for government operations.

In exchange, Schumer said, Republicans would agree to a one-year extension of existing enhanced tax credits that are used to reduce the cost of health insurance purchased on Affordable Care Act marketplaces.

It is a one paragraph story. Needs more fleshing out.

I think it would be better for Dems to let the COVID subsidy supplement expire and see if the increase is really so bad.

If it is, the Democrats will win by a wide margin in 26 and 28.

If not so bad, they can pretend it is anyway.

Of course, we already know exactly how bad it will be for a typical ACA exchange user: a 114% increase of a payment that is only fifty dollars right now.

Fifty dollars. Which will go up to a hundred and seven dollars.

Not an admirer of fedemps, but I hate to see them losing their whole paychecks due to Democrats' purported attempt to prevent people who do not have jobs that offer health insurance from having their monthly out of pocket healthcare costs go up by $57.

Not to worry. The offer has already been rejected.

Democratic leader offers deal to reopen government but Republicans sneer

The trump shutdown continues unabated.
Good!

I love that they rejected it.And especially that they sneered. i hope it was very literal.

Time for the Democrats to realize that they have had a deal to reopen government for more than thirty seven days now. They are like the scarecrow and wizard of oz. He actually had a brain the whole movie. The trick was for him to use it.

Democrats are the same. Except that the scarecrow knew better than to plate with fire.

Mess with the pirate, you get the hook!

Wow, what a deal. At least they're going around Schumer, who insists on everything or nothing. Maybe the party is finally ready to listen to reason, a little.
It's Schumer's proposal and he never asked for "everything." He's asked for a negotiation.

Lindsey has a very interesting way of wordsmithing premium increases that will potentially leave millions without health insurance coverage.

“I find Senator Schumer’s demands ridiculous and equivalent to political hostage taking to continue bad policy, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, said in a post on X.

“We should not be made to continue flooding health insurance companies with taxpayer dollars under Obamacare as the price to open up the government,” Graham said.

All those years of the Repub's trying to sabotage the ACA are coming home to roost.

Even your own link shows Trump doubled the deficit before Covid!

And you all went radio silent. After bitching for eight years and beyond about Obama's spending as he cut the deficit in HALF. Again as your link shows.

These are the facts.

.

All hogwash from Obiden 2009 CR with $1T stimulus finally swallowed up by GOVT interest and rising spending. Nice try but I dont play.

Deficit only dropped because they ran lowet and lower on funding every year on CR.

Why do you disagree with Graham? Why do yoh think flooding big insurance companies with tax dollars is a good idea?

I sneer at your fact-free assertions.

Just pay the extra $57 and be thankful I still pick up the tab for 80% plus of your healthcare premiums.

So if the ACA expanded Medcaid, and MEdicaid is getting federal dollars, and CA uses medicaid to get illegals healtcare, then....well....I don't think I have to connect the dots anymore
None of that has anything to do with the shutdown unless you plan on scrapping the ACA entirely
