Amid the Cosmic Ocean's lapping waves,
where ancient sailors challenged all the "laws"
of interstellar travel's fatal flaws,
are monuments that also serve as graves.
What DIDN'T die on those ill-fated ships
was sent to seed the lands of distant stars
with DNA that's similar to ours,
accomplishing The Mission of those trips:
survival of a species of great means,
which faced destruction in the distant past
and failed to skirt a super nova's blast...
but DID escape extinction through their genes.
So, we who live today on planet Earth
are just a line descended from that race
which impregnated our galactic space...
and perished in the act of giving birth.
