No, he explained it. You take the total dead (as claimed by Hamas) and you deduct the number of combatants (as claimed by Israel). That will give you the rough kindergarten number. John literally said that at least three times. He also noted that the information is widely and publicly available. I'd do it this way: Total dead - combatant deaths - deaths by natural causes - deaths caused by Hamas = rough calculation of war(IDF)-caused non-combatant deaths.
