The problem is that too many people abuse the comparison for emotional or propaganda reasons, instead of intellectual reasons. In American vocabulary words like communist, socialist, facist, and Nazi are used as generic terms to identify something the speaker does not like. That practice has made it difficult to have meaningful or intelligent conversations about communism, socialism, fascism, or Nazism.
