Our children borrowed the money because they didn't have a choice. It was either borrow the money or not go to college, you fucking Republican shithead. The ghost of Jackie Gleason from the Honey Mooners, is going to show up and care for you when you're sick in the hospital? Who the hell is going to make sure we live in a modern, high-tech society? You were raised in an America where you could go to college for peanuts. One breadwinner could support the family. 1/3rd of the American workforce was unionized. My grandfather, in 1965, bought a house with a huge backyard and fruit trees, cash, without a mortgage, working a blue-collar job, spraying fiberglass on boat molds for Bertram Yachts. That America is GONE, thanks to Republican assholes like you. So much for "family values"!

Now mom has to work too. Family values my ass! I was a lachkey kid. I raised myself, because when I would get home, the house was empty. It was me and my brothers and friends, up to no good. No guidance. MTV, video games, Mary and Juana, Dungeons and Dragons, no mom, even grandma, and grandpa had to work in the 1980s. "Thanks" Republicans, for your "Family Values". Jerks!

Education should be tuition-free or at least affordable. That's not what it is now, so our children had to get loans. They're burdened with huge student loans that they shouldn't have. They're our future. Heck, even their life expectancy is less than ours. The likelihood of them owning a home is much less than it was for even me, born in the early 70s. You old farts in your 70s and 80s, raised in the golden age of our economy, making it more difficult for our children to succeed in life and have their piece of the pie. Their American Dream. Maybe that's why our children are so screwed up and can't even define what a woman is? They're cutting off their dicks and testicles. We've screwed them up, because we're screwed up. Lift the burden.

Some of you are Christians. Actually, a lot of you are supposedly, disciples of Jesus Christ. The "Salt and Light Of The Earth", born again and spirit-filled. You haven't read your bible? The God of the bible forgives the debt of the nation every 70 years. He's a God that forgives debt. He even sent his son to forgive humanity's debt through a simple act of genuine, fruit-bearing faith. Salvation through God-given faith. Jesus taught that we should pray for those who persecute us and forgive them. He taught us to forgive those who owe us, or else God would not forgive our debt to him. The first Christians lived in a community where they held all things in common and no one lacked anything. Everyone had their needs met. You haven't read your bible?

An atheist-communist has to teach you your own bible? Where are the sons of God? I don't see Christ in you at all. You should be guiding the world by the power of the Holy Spirit, that indwells you. WHERE IS JESUS? WHERE ARE YOU JESUS? Where are you, Son of The Living God? Your disciples should be guiding a lost and broken world and governing it with love and genuine justice. I served four-year tours in the US Army and ETSed as an E5 SGT - 76 Yankee - Unit Supply Specialist. I had my GI BILL, but two years in the army isn't enough to get you through college, much less through graduate school. Universities are too expensive, and what needs to be done is to reduce the cost to affordable levels, at the very least. Education is an investment in our nation's future. It allows us to compete with countries like China.

Socialists like myself would make all public colleges and universities 100% tuition free.

China isn't communist you dummy. Have you ever read Marx? Obviously not. China is a mutant freak. Communism is a stateless society, without socioeconomic classes or the need for money. Does that sound like China? According to Marx, socialism is the process that leads production to a communist society. High Communism is the goal of socialism, but it only emerges with very advanced technology. The USSR and China were socialist countries. The USSR collapsed when it began introducing market reforms to placate the United States and end the Cold War and China refused to properly industrialize as Russia did, remaining a backward agrarian socialist state. Capitalism has its Haiti and Uganda, and Socialism had its China.

China today is "socialist" or "communist" only in name. They're the furthest thing from that. They're just an oppressive, trash regime, that exploits its workers and depends heavily on foreign trade. It's disgusting. The only way we can compete with China is by rebuilding our manufacturing base and becoming independent in every way, politically and economically. That is the only way to America Great Again.

We can start by lifting the debt burden off of our youth and allowing them to build this country.

As a couple of posters have pointed out, the deadbeats have not been paying their loans for quite a while. Many of them were not paying their student loans even before the pandemic. So there is no "extra money" for them to pay off other debts, take vacations for anything else.

This is how Americans deal with their income. Non-Americans may be no better, but I see how Americans act. We spend whatever is available, we don't put extra into savings. Some of us have deductions into savings or investments before we see the money, because we would not be disciplined enough to do a monthly budget and put whatever is left over into savings.

I teach school for a living, so I'm not rich. But my wife is a teacher's aide and only brings home just under 1500 per month. I know some aides that have that as their sole income. They end up sharing expenses with another aide, but they get by. Sometimes I see teachers complain about their low pay in front of the aides and I want to smack them.

Anyway, point being, if we decided that "Hey! These student loan deadbeats must also have a hard time making their car note payments, so Uncle Sam should pay those off as well," the students would just spend the "extra" money on . . . stuff. We, the hardworking taxpayers who pay off our vehicles as quickly as possible would have less money to spend on stuff, so that the student loan deadbeats can have more.

It would be no different than paying off their student loan. The whole point of the payoff deal was so that recent college grads (or non-grads), who mainly vote Democrat, can have more stuff, at the expense of hard working taxpayers who mainly vote Republican.
