Immigration, legal and not, is not the problem some are making it out to be

Even if the Yale statistical modeling is correct; we as a country are better off getting these people into the system, working, paying taxes, and so forth.

As of 2021, the U.S. population was 332 million. Estimates are that there are 11.5 million undocumented people living here, so that is only 3.5%.

The problem is thinking that is a problem, let alone believing it is a crisis of some kind.

We have a historically low unemployment rate currently 3.7%, so the undocumented are not only not the problem, we need them here.

Immigrants are the folks who had the gumption to take the risk to leave society's they were familiar with to resettle in strange surroundings and they typically thrive. These are the people you should want to be here with lower crime rates than native born Americans and hard workers.

We should process work permits for those who are here and hire more immigration court staff to rapidly process asylum claims.

Stop making the undocumented, who the vast majority of which are good decent people, live in limbo so the wealthy can profit from their cheap labor.

Like what? We signed on to the 1967 Protocol. I guess we could get out from under it but until that happens we do have obligations.

Unilaterally withdraw. Problem solved.

1880 witnessed a population that was almost 40% immigrant.

1880 was a far different era than today

The west had millions of acres of farm land waiting to be plowed, and timber to be cut

The north was rapidly industrializing and in need of workers for its factories

But today uneducated foreigners are a drag on our economy snd our welfare system

But JESH is not honest enough to admit any of this.

Jaraxle and Mac-7 are wrong yet again.

Yes, we need immigrants to keep the economy growing and going.
Yes, but kind of immigrants and how many?

We need the best and the brightest that other nations have to offer

And their immediate family - i.e. wives and children only

Doctors, engineers, high skilled technicians

We dont need taxi drivers, gardeners, drug dealers or other assorted illiterates

Agreed?

Who says we don't need those people when Americans won't do them, other than drug dealing, which is a highly completive with growth opportunity provided you can stay alive.

Americans have been bums when half of them died at Plymouth that first winter, and the indigenous peoples had to feed the Jamestown settlers so they would not starve.

... who won't work those jobs. This argument has been going on for 200 years.
That "Give us your poor ,tired ,hungry" crap is obsolete. In the 1800's , 90% of Jobs were grunt labor. Nowadays it is less than 5%. And sinking fast. The USA does not need any more unskilled paupers.

And yet those jobs are filled by immigrants and still go begging for more.
