People are held back because of how the system works. Things could change for the better, but the US doesn't seem to want that. The rich like having all these poor people fighting each other, it creates money for them.

Other countries do things better.

In the UK they had a gun problem in the early 2000s. (nothing compared to the US, but Nottingham became known as Shottingham, for example). So they dealt with it.

Things that can be done. Have multi-class, multi-ethnic areas.

In Germany you'll have more expensive and less expensive apartments side by side. You have decent public transport there too. And people end up growing up together and not feeling like their class defines who they are. In the US there are ghettos, which lead to cycles of poverty.

You can say "Well I made it" etc, and some do, but STATISTICALLY (which is important when dealing with large numbers of people) most do not make it. But you can change that. It just takes intelligence. And US politicians don't use their intelligence for that, they use it to screw people out of money.

Taking the racial element out of the term, privilege is defined as follows:

Not all benefits are things given or obtained, some benefits are things you are shielded from or don't have negatively impact you.

The United States of America was founded by members of the white race. Because enough of them believed in the [alleged] "superiority of the white race" as ordained by 'our Creator'" they created a society based upon this premise. White members of society had their constitutional and civil rights recognized and protected while people of African descent were not considered citizens and had no recognition of any U.S. Constitutional rights until after the passage of the 14th Amendment in 1868.

The passage of the civil rights act of 1964 unfortunately did little to change the hearts and minds of hard core racist Americans. We know this because today, in the year 2024, 60 years after the passage of the act, the agencies tasked with enforcing the provisions of the act are still taking complaints, conducting investigations and finding that many people in the various protected groups over the umbrella of the EEOC are still being discriminated against based on one or more of their protected class status - race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, etc.

The things I've listed above, in all likelihood are not things you've given much consideration to, if your life is as you've outlined in your OP, probably because they don't concern or impact you. The fact that you've never even had to consider such things, if that is the case, is a benefit of being a member of the white race.

I think it’s a safe bet to say that MOST white people have been passed over for a job or promotion in favor of a black person, and particularly a black female, even though they may never know it. It is especially blatant in the federal government.
