If we have obliterated the country where do they have power to make any demands. If we hold all the cards, how can we be in this position?

They are absolutely free to ask for far too much even when they have little or no ability to achieve any such agreement.

Iran did lose this war in the sense that they have been forcefully denied the ability, now, to craft nuclear weapons. The war, being lost, doesn’t mean that they grasp the futility of further fighting.

Russia and China most certainly keep Iran well supplied. Food can be flown in, but oil can't be flown out. However, I'm certain Russia and China would give Iran their supplies upfront with the expectation of petroleum trade as "special customers".

Both Russia and China have an interest in controlling at least half of the traffic flowing out of the Persian Gulf. Another reason for them to support Iran.

Still, like Ukraine and the US, I doubt Russia and China will actually put military assets in the area. That could turn out to be bad for everyone. Remember why General Milley chatted with his counterpart in China?
