But, while impeachment remains a choice, our government prefers to "look forward, not back." That "precedent" was set when "Watergate" was ignored to let Nixon off the hook, and when "Iran/Contra" was ignored to let Reagan off the hook. Yes, some of those involved in Watergate served time, but no one faced any consequences for Iran/Contra.
So, trump will face no charges for any of his federal crimes, with or without a presidential pardon.
The pardon clause has an "impeachment" exclusion. Whatever Trump did to get himself impeached, remains a crime he can be prosecuted for.
