If Trump is impeached (again) will republicans be forced to convict?

But, while impeachment remains a choice, our government prefers to "look forward, not back." That "precedent" was set when "Watergate" was ignored to let Nixon off the hook, and when "Iran/Contra" was ignored to let Reagan off the hook. Yes, some of those involved in Watergate served time, but no one faced any consequences for Iran/Contra.

So, trump will face no charges for any of his federal crimes, with or without a presidential pardon.

The pardon clause has an "impeachment" exclusion. Whatever Trump did to get himself impeached, remains a crime he can be prosecuted for.

The people have voted trump guilty? What the hell are you smoking?
81 million people voted against Trump in 2020, while only 74 million voted for him.

Their votes were to remove Trump from office, which they finally got confirmed yesterday, while Trump turned to sedition to prevent it.

Trumps first impeachment trial had every republican vote "not guilty" where they said the reason was that the removal of the president shouldn't be by the judgement of congress, but in the hands of the people in the next election.

Despite lies about voter fraud, the people have voted Trump "guilty", so republicans will need a new reason to ignore the facts of the case. And the case for impeachment is about more than just removal from office, which will be a moot point by the time it goes to trial.

Oh, goodness no.

140 of these fucks just tried to overturn the will of the States, Electors and people......and merely install a Trump junta.

Yesterday. These are still the same spineless pieces of amoral shit they were 24 hours ago.
1/3 of the House and 6 in the Senate. So the House could pass an impeachment and the Senate has way more than it needs to sentence him to never holding office again.

And if it came to it, Susan Collins better vote to teach him a lesson this time!

good idea...

waste MORE time trying to get Trump.

Don't worry about covid, the economy, the stimulus, etc.
Actually it's because, Trump doesn't worry about covid, the economy, and the stimulus, etc.

Trump has played golf, tweeted, called up the secretary of state of georgia to get him to change the voter certification, and urged his supporters to take over the US Capitol.

Actually it's because, Trump doesn't worry about covid, the economy, and the stimulus, etc.

Why didn't you address my post, instead of going on yet another TDS rant?

How anyone deny voter fraud when seeing film as it happened is one stupid sob.

We have phone call after phone call made by Trump to influence the election. Whether by leaning on the President of the Ukraine for "dirt" or leaning on the Georgia Secretary of State for "votes"

You complain about doing nothing, while that's the very reason to impeach Trump. It's to get him out of there so somebody who will do something can do something.

Impeachment is a function of congress, and has no effect on the running of the government, which will finally be back in adult hands.

They've got a lot more than abuse of power to go on this time.

I think they said 18 phone calls to the Georgia Secretary of State alone.

Will there ever come a day when you secular lefties decide to live in the real world?
It's bad enough you are ruining your own lives, but ours, too.

Then you have 62 federal judges, including those appointed by Trump. The secretaries of state, and the governors of all the states that certified their election results. And now the US congress.

Amazingly none of that is true.

40 million of that 81 million were printed on the spot.

Trump is like a cornered animal. He feels he has nothing to lose, so he commits bigger and bigger offenses in a vain attempt to hold onto power.
With yesterdays actions he crossed the Rubicon, and entered the realm of sedition against the incoming government.

So the democrats are manufacturing a reason to keep Trump from running against Harris in 2024 already huh?

It must be a scary world they live in.
it is part of the Democrat Cult behavior

Okay, so a few posters that have joined this thread have reminded me of the large number of folks who are going to be highly upset all over again if there is an impeachment proceeding. Do we want that bleeding again? Is that worth the price to ensure Trump can't start campaigning for 2024? It's a damned high price. And there's a chance he'll be incarcerated. Think carefully.

Given the history of presidential prosecutions, trump will never be held accountable. Our politicians would not want to set a risky precedent. Someday, one of them might become POTUS, and they want the door left open to pursue any financial opportunities that might come their way while in office.

What is the price of NOT impeaching Trump. It means that we've said, you can commit high crimes and misdemeanors, such as sedition against the government, and get away with it.

Trump retains the power to pardon everybody who participated in the assault on the Capitol Building. No matter how crazy it sounds, Trump has the power to give blanket pardons, which could actually be a way for a president to pardon himself.
