Did you own the building where the restaurant stood? Did you buy the ingredients and cook the food? Did you pay all the taxes for the restaurant? You worked for the restaurant, so did the manager. If you were happy working for nothing but what you could beg, guess what that makes you?
Obviously, the finest establishment you have ever patronized is Golden Corral. First, does the dog walker own the park she takes the dog too? I mean do they not teach the difference in service and product in that podunk teaching college you went to. Or hell, business of any type. Do you really thing a restaurant is going to pay their workers what they are worth? You ever hear of this thing called capitalism? Or profit?
Besides, you failed to answer the question. Do you want your server working for you or for the restaurant? Hell, even at Golden Corral.
Servers don't beg you flippin moron, they don't walk around with a cup begging. Yeah, Starbucks, Domino's, even some grocery store self-checkout lanes have a tip screen. Insulting if you ask me. But revealing that you think that way about fine dining. A server merely presents the check. Most places I worked had a mandatory tip for parties of six or more, I refused. I always got more.
It is comical really. Some lame ass school teacher who lives off the taxpayer and always complains about how little they get paid. Acting all sanctimonious and belittling a group of people that actually do get paid what they are worth, and only the really sorry one's complain. A server doesn't twist your arm, they accept what you give them, and you give them what you think they are worth, well at least most people. I am here to tell you that if Christ returns he sure as hell won't be a school teacher, he will be a server.
Think about the word. "Server". I have a degree in Leadership, yeah, that is a real discipline. And the buzz word in that discipline now is "Servant Leader". I can't think of a better job for anyone seeking to be a leader than being a server. Thing is, I worked with a lot of school teachers who had part time gigs as servers, being a teacher didn't make them a better server, being a server made them a better teacher.
