President Trump - how I love typing those words - is the first President ever to come from a successful business career into the Presidency. Tax returns from his predecessors were boring and insubstantial.

Those who have not been living in a monastery for the past two years know that the entire non-Fox Media has been trying to reverse the results of the 2016 presidential election. The New York Times, in particulay has been relentless in trying to find ANY sort of dirt on Trump, even when they need to hire an army of researchers to do it (e.g., the couple of recent tax non-stories), or simply make shit up.

Mr. Trump's tax returns would constitute a fairly large volume - several hundred pages of detailed information. Can you even imagine what the NYT would do with this volume of information? They would hire an ARMY of forensic accountants, which would find scores of "shocking" items from Trump's tax returns. The front page headline on every day until the final day of Trump's second term would be another revelation leaving the entire American Left breathless and shocked. All of Teump's time and energy would be consumed in answering these questions, the esence of which would boil down to: YES, I DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO MINIMIZE MY TAXES.

And consider: Trump is audited EVERY YEAR. He pays all he is required to pay, and always has. If the Revenuers disagree with a particular deduction or credit, they talk it over and come to an agreement. I assure you he has never gotten special favors from the IRS.

Congress cannot compel the President to give them copies of his tax return. Period. Separation of powers, and all that. Their best avenue would be to demand them from the Commissioner of the IRS. This would, of course result in a Supreme Court decision which Trump would win.

Congress could pass a law requiring FUTURE presidents and/or candidates to submit their returns, but (a) that won't happen while Trump is still in office, and (b) it wouldn't apply to Trump, even if such a law could be passed right now.
