You are bashing something that has ALWAYS been a meritocracy when it comes to DEI. On the other hand prior to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 hiring, promotion and opportunities were not merit based so its disingenuous that you would try to represent what is going on as a non-belief in meritocracy.Really comes down to one thing. Either you are for meritocracy or you’re not. Hands-down.. And if you wanna talk about slavery and racism, white people and Black people have experienced this all throughout history.
No one cared about a meritocracy when it was pretty much exclusively white people who benefited from the laws. It's only when Black people began catching up in numbers and prosperity that white racists, predominantly males began crying and falsely allegedly that they were being discriminated against.
The employment number of White males & females including those in managerial positions has always been and still are currently, at a higher percentage than their representation in the U.S. population. So how does that equate to anti-white discrimination? Rhetorical question - it DOESN'T.
Trump et al eradicating DEI from the federal workforce only displays his ignorance of the actual history of DEI and meritocracy in the federal workforce:
U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). Established in 1979, the MSPB is an independent, quasi-judicial agency tasked with safeguarding federal merit systems against partisan political practices and other prohibited personnel actions. Its primary mission is to ensure that federal employees are selected, advanced, and treated based on merit, thereby promoting an effective and efficient federal workforce.
Key Functions of the MSPB:
- Adjudication: The MSPB adjudicates appeals from federal employees regarding various personnel actions, including removals, suspensions, furloughs, and demotions. Employees who believe that such actions are unjust can appeal to the MSPB for a fair hearing.

- Studies and Oversight: The MSPB conducts objective, non-partisan studies to assess and evaluate federal merit systems' policies, operations, and practices. These studies aim to ensure that federal employment practices remain free from prohibited personnel practices and adhere to merit system principles.

- Protection of Whistleblowers: Under the Whistleblower Protection Act, the MSPB provides a platform for federal employees to file complaints if they face retaliation for disclosing government illegality, waste, or corruption. This function is crucial in maintaining transparency and accountability within federal agencies.

The MSPB is composed of three members appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, with no more than two members from the same political party. This structure is designed to maintain the Board's impartiality and non-partisan stance.
In recent developments, there have been significant discussions and actions concerning the federal civil service system. For instance, the reintroduction of policies similar to "Schedule F" aims to reclassify certain federal positions, potentially affecting the merit-based advancement and protections traditionally upheld by the MSPB. These changes have sparked debates about the balance between political oversight and merit-based civil service protections.
Understanding the role and functions of the MSPB is essential for comprehending how merit-based hiring and advancement are maintained within the federal government, as well as the challenges and changes that may impact this system.
