If capitalism works why are you all getting government handouts ?

i used the first stimulus check to pay for materials to build a built-in in my house. i plan to use a second, if i get it to help pay for a new kitchen in my rental property.

i'm not a huge fan of just handing out money. i have serious doubts about, all of this. but if they are handing it out, i will spend it to contribute to the "Stimulus" effect they are going for.
/——/ Good for you, but what is a built-in?

Don’t be concerned. Trillions are handed out to the ultra wealthy.

that is part of my reasoning.

more and more, i am coming to believe that the debt, none of the debt, our or other governments, will really be paid off.

we are in a unsustainable situation, and there is no reason to expect anything other than some form of crash and burn.

like when bob and doug mckenizie lost control of the beer truck, on icy road.

"no use steering now".

I consider it a rebate of income illegally confiscated before I even receive it. Even with a second stimulus check, the government still has several thousand dollars of my income "after" my tax refund came.
Those that have no tax liability after receiving their refund shouldn't get the money.
It’s most ironic that our government and the Fed bailout big business to the tune of trillions, yet no one says this is a disincentive to work. However, they do say this for the working class.

Republicans call the $600 unemployment boost a disincentive to work. Many experts disagree
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/03/is-...a-disincentive-to-work-no-economists-say.html
Are you dumb ??? Big business employ's thousands of workers, so the bailouts are the incentive to maintain employee's, to remain stable in an emergency, and to hire in an emergency.

Individuals don't employ people, and instead use the money as an incentive to not work.

Otherwise it's like the Democrat's have (over the years), turned the federal government into an "employ/citizen union" that uses my hard earned money to call a strike against my employer or other employers who would probably hire the hold outs if the government wasn't incentivizing them to stay on strike and not work with my money.
yep there it is. A justification for socialism for the rich. One would think after O’s bailouts, all Americans work see the scam.

Do you think capitalism means government bailouts for big corporations?
Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person ??? Now dealing with monopolies is a whole other ball game, and another topic of another discussion.

Build on or add on probably is my guess. LOL

sort of a collection of cabinets and shelves, with lighting, built into the wall. in this case in the space between a fireplace and the corner.

looks good, and gave us a lot of storage.

that is what we call it in this area.

/——/ Actually, driver training teaches us to take our foot off the brakes and steer into the skid to regain control. A simple across the board spending cut of 10% would retire the debt in a few years.

What they are calling capitalism and what they are calling socialism are two sides of plutocracy. Neither are primarily concerned with the economic well being of the working class.

They way the two parties operate, you are right. The basic argument is correct that we are NOT a country that operates as a capitalistic country. We have a hodge podge of all sorts of things. Heck you have Trump arguing for a piece of a sale of a company.

What this country is really lacking is people willing to be truthful. People readily accept things they know are lies because they see those lies as helping out their party. It's one reason I have no problem with things falling completely apart.

The "pandemic" caused The Government, by edict to turn off Capitalism.

Prior to pandemic - Capitalism the driving force for positive real change in the USA and the world.
During pandemic - less so.

That's it.

Spending cuts to what ? I can think of much reform needed, but I would be fought by the rabid dogs all the way.

We have had "pandemics" for years now that has caused that. Where in Capitalism do we find the part where the government bails out business?

spending cuts are impossible due to unfunded entitlements.

hell, a spending freeze is impossible for the same reason.

and changing that, in a democratic system, with a greying population seems to be impossible.

hell, DISCUSSING it openly, seems to be impossible.

it seems to be an inherent flaw in the concept of the current model of the liberal nation-state, across the board.

if not worse than that. i believe that illiberal authoritarian states have similar issues, such as russia and china.

Bail out or helping for the purpose of keeping capitalism alive and well in the future ? Now who to help or what formula's are used is another story. Depends on the parties agenda's and long term goals. Never let a good crisis go to waste right ??

/——/ I should have been specific. A 10% cut across the board in discretionary spending. Entitlements can be trimmed by aggressively eliminating fraud and waste.

LOL, always with the excuses. Capitalism is not being "kept alive" when you bail out a company. Capitalism says that when a business fails, it fails. If it creates a void where something is needed others will fill it.

The biggest problem in this country really isn't capitalism or socialism, it's people like yourself who will not be honest.

We are nearing 28 trillion in debt. By November it may be 30 trillion.

There seem to be double standards at work here. I do think that it is the role of government to help out when capitalism fails but so many of my fellow posters seem to be happy decrying "Venezuela" whilst gorging themselves on the government teat.

Are you all going to give the money back ?
Lol that’s our money haha

Yup, reflect on that fact.
