If capitalism works why are you all getting government handouts ?

i see an unsupported assertion. that is not a point.
Probably because you're too lazy to read the link I provided:

Mystery: How Wealth Creates Poverty in the World by Michael Parenti

"Over the last half century, U.S. industries and banks (and other western corporations) have invested heavily in those poorer regions of Asia, Africa, and Latin America known as the 'Third World.'

"The transnationals are attracted by the rich natural resources, the high return that comes from low-paid labor, and the nearly complete absence of taxes, environmental regulations, worker benefits, and occupational safety costs.

"The U.S. government has subsidized this flight of capital by granting corporations tax concessions on their overseas investments, and even paying some of their relocation expenses—much to the outrage of labor unions here at home who see their jobs evaporating."

There seem to be double standards at work here. I do think that it is the role of government to help out when capitalism fails but so many of my fellow posters seem to be happy decrying "Venezuela" whilst gorging themselves on the government teat.

Are you all going to give the money back ?
Is it 1850 Tommy? Also....you do know that Britain was the boss for centuries. then the went socialist and their annual growth plunged like ours. The world becomes more dangerous when there is a power vacuum. We had 2 world wars between the power vacuum of Britain and the new world leader, the United States. And both nations had a lot in common and were English speaking. Imagine when China takes over. It will be a doozy. p.s....I do believe there can be a relationship between capitalism and socialist policies. It is the percentages of each that we have to get down and realize we can not solve all problems at this point in human development.
There is no need for China to "take over". You are already a socialist nation reliant on government handouts.
Tommy "The Troll" at it again...

/——/ They are driven overseas by the punitive tax, environmental and labor laws that make manufacturing in the US difficult and unprofitable.

No, no, no, greed is not the reason it was invented. Capitalism without a checks and balances system can be consumed by greed or the greedy yes. We have a capitalist system that was built on honor and integrity
The US capitalist system was built on genocide and chattel slavery, so I'm not sure where you're finding any "honor and integrity."

Capitalism depends on a parasitic exploitation of natural resources and the vast majority of human beings who depend on a paycheck for their subsistence. Greed isn't a glitch, it is a fundamental feature of capitalism.

The government forced businesses to shut down

That is not capitalism that is Socialism

They are driven overseas by the punitive tax, environmental and labor laws that make manufacturing in the US difficult and unprofitable.
You're saying US capitalists who extort profit by fouling the air, water, and politics, who derive a "free lunch" from their global reserve currency and one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world, and who have stolen virtually all of the productivity gains of the last half-century were treated unfairly by a government they own?
iCTuo.jpg

"From 1979 to 2018, net productivity rose 108.1 percent, while the hourly pay of typical workers essentially stagnated—increasing only 11.6 percent over 39 years (after adjusting for inflation).

"This means that although Americans are working more productively than ever, the fruits of their labors have primarily accrued to those at the top and to corporate profits, especially in recent years."

The Productivity–Pay Gap.

There is lots of data on the option that did not happen. Not
Models or data? Where did the data come from? There was none before shutdown.
Yf you could read, you would know that I am saying there can be no data from the option not taken.
well then you can't claim success! you have no idea what the norm would have been. When the guberment overreacted, they left themselves with no way back. It was intentional.

fk the guberment, the business structure in the US is capitalism. The demofks would love to see communist china business.

In 1979 I made $5 dollars an hour, today I make 35 dollars an hour. that isn't 11.6. just saying, you're wrong. And by the way, there are tens of millions of me

who does it hurt? come on poindexter spell it out.
An ever-widening gap between the rich and poor increases poverty, reduces economic mobility, expands racial and gender gaps, and destroys US living standards for all but a fortunate few:

MAGA?
so you have nothing to argue back. gotcha. I knew that, so it was rhetorical. you can't justify your position at all. that makes you garbage in garbage out.

/——/ No, you moron. Welfare and food stamps are hand outs. Letting people keep more of their hard earned money isn’t.
Dude, he’s a tainted European
/——/ I know, but it’s worth the effort to educate them. My friend grew up in Socialist Ireland, moved to the US and within a year understood how much better capitalism is. It’s great listening to him defend our system to his family who flies over to visit.
I'd start with yourself. No one is pushing socialism.
