If capitalism works why are you all getting government handouts ?

There seem to be double standards at work here. I do think that it is the role of government to help out when capitalism fails but so many of my fellow posters seem to be happy decrying "Venezuela" whilst gorging themselves on the government teat.

Are you all going to give the money back ?
Is it 1850 Tommy? Also....you do know that Britain was the boss for centuries. then the went socialist and their annual growth plunged like ours. The world becomes more dangerous when there is a power vacuum. We had 2 world wars between the power vacuum of Britain and the new world leader, the United States. And both nations had a lot in common and were English speaking. Imagine when China takes over. It will be a doozy. p.s....I do believe there can be a relationship between capitalism and socialist policies. It is the percentages of each that we have to get down and realize we can not solve all problems at this point in human development.
There is no need for China to "take over". You are already a socialist nation reliant on government handouts.
/——/ No, you moron. Welfare and food stamps are hand outs. Letting people keep more of their hard earned money isn’t.
Dude, he’s a tainted European

I consider it a rebate of income illegally confiscated before I even receive it. Even with a second stimulus check, the government still has several thousand dollars of my income "after" my tax refund came.
Those that have no tax liability after receiving their refund shouldn't get the money.
It’s most ironic that our government and the Fed bailout big business to the tune of trillions, yet no one says this is a disincentive to work. However, they do say this for the working class.

Republicans call the $600 unemployment boost a disincentive to work. Many experts disagree

I find it funny that people scream about 600 dollars being a disincentive to work.

Yet they don't see that the problem is that people aren't making enough money at work. It's not the problem of unemployment. The problem is people aren't being paid a living wage.

While the owners, ceos, executives and stockholders walk away with millions.

Paying people a living wage is very bad but it's great that those at the top walk away with millions.

We have to shower the filthy rich to give them incentives to do business in America but we can't make sure our people have a living wage to give them an incentive to go to work.

The values and priorities in some people in our nation are all messed up.
Exactly right. Thank you.

Our nation has become a failed state. If we can’t care for the vast majority of our citizens but shower the wealthy with all kinds of goodies, we are a failed state.

Merely stating this obvious fact, makes me a communist in the minds of some.

I've been called a communist since the Reagan years when all of this started.

We could start a club. LOL.
You’ve got me beat by a few years.

I'm old. LOL.
So?

i used the first stimulus check to pay for materials to build a built-in in my house. i plan to use a second, if i get it to help pay for a new kitchen in my rental property.

i'm not a huge fan of just handing out money. i have serious doubts about, all of this. but if they are handing it out, i will spend it to contribute to the "Stimulus" effect they are going for.
Don’t be concerned. Trillions are handed out to the ultra wealthy.
Where?

Are you dumb ??? Big business employ's thousands of workers, so the bailouts are the incentive to maintain employee's, to remain stable in an emergency, and to hire in an emergency.

Individuals don't employ people, and instead use the money as an incentive to not work.

Otherwise it's like the Democrat's have (over the years), turned the federal government into an "employ/citizen union" that uses my hard earned money to call a strike against my employer or other employers who would probably hire the hold outs if the government wasn't incentivizing them to stay on strike and not work with my money.
yep there it is. A justification for socialism for the rich. One would think after O’s bailouts, all Americans work see the scam.

Do you think capitalism means government bailouts for big corporations?
They are when the guberment shut them down! Where you been?

A number of falsehoods there.

Britain did not economically decline due to socialism. It was due to too many wars and the US is following in it’s footsteps, as all empires do.

Secondly, it is a convenient lie by the militarists to proclaim a power vacuum leads to war. They in effect are saying the US must make war to stay in power. Silly and deadly. There has been no power vacuum, but we still have lots of war.

Wrong. The three over reform acts collectively weakened the UK to where the socialist policies did indeed weaken it.

In his ass!

I believe any money handed out by the government should go only to those put out of a job or business because of mandated government shutdowns. I thought Obama was excessive with handouts, what is going on during this administration makes me sick.

Capitalism has been mangled over the last 40 years, creating massive inequalities and giving rise to far more interest in socialism.

It's not capitalism's fault; it's the way it has been applied.
You could say the same thing about modern socialism.

Inequalities exist in ALL economies. Capitalism is the only one that offers economic opportunity.
Of course, and it's a matter of degree.

At some point that degree becomes large enough that the people start looking at other options. That's what's happening now.

There is no need for China to "take over". You are already a socialist nation reliant on government handouts.

/——/ I know, but it’s worth the effort to educate them. My friend grew up in Socialist Ireland, moved to the US and within a year understood how much better capitalism is. It’s great listening to him defend our system to his family who flies over to visit.

I'd start with yourself. No one is pushing socialism.
