I thought eggs were supposed to be cheaper.

Chicks typically hatch from eggs after 21 days of incubation, and depending on the breed, can be market ready within around 56 days (approximately 8 weeks) after hatching.

Key points about chick hatching and market readiness:
  • Incubation period: The standard incubation time for chicken eggs is 21 days.

  • Hatching process: Chicks usually start to "pip" (break through the shell) around day 20 and fully hatch within a day or two.

  • Market readiness: Broiler chickens, which are raised specifically for meat, can be ready for market in around 8 weeks, while egg-laying breeds may take slightly longer.
18 to 22 weeks to go from Chick to.layimg hen About a month ago eggs dropped but then a new outbreak of bird flu occured and 20 million more hens were culled. Back to ground zero.

What are they giving the chickens to make them grow so much faster? That's the scary part.

My wife and I. We grow our own veggies, the beef we get is from a small farm, humanely treated not full of chemicals guy and his wife. (It's alot pricier but worth it). At our ages we eat 2 meals per day. We also do not drink city water because it's not trustworthy. There are many things gs a person can do to watch over their health. We do buy some goods from an Amish store as well. It's good stuff.

Right.

Are you insane ? Seriously , the bird flu is only responsible for the majority of the price increase in eggs.. That being said. , the world-wide Post COVID crisis is responsible for the increases in everything else. Trump seized upon the price increase and wrongly blamed Biden for it. He got fools like you to believe it. America has a lot of fools unfortunately. Maybe they're just uninformed or misinformed. Either way it isn't good. We're on very shaky ground now.

Exactly where are you getting your info on the Bird flu? CNN or MSNBC? Which of these has a major stake in egg farms?

"We're on very shaky ground now" ? (wtf?!)

Wait, are you the one who started the thread titled "Biden, making American "normal" again ?

I think of all the child food allergies and auto immune diseases on the rise. Surely it can't be the food supply. We can't hold them accountable can we.

Stann,

At the very least please try to see how bad policies and other factors can ALSO affect commodity prices.
Unfortunately, we are fools to believe we are getting accurate info from the MSM.

Living in a rural small farming town, I probably go to church with 20 folks who can sell me those same eggs. I love it because I know what they feed their chickens and that the eggs are very fresh! You can call someone and request a couple dozen eggs to be brought to church on Sunday morning. We also have farmers who put their products out on an honor pay cart when they're in season, and leave a notice on FB, but it's too cold now to leave eggs outside.

I love FARM FRESH!!!!!

That's the way to do it ...

I do have to travel about 3 miles to get my fresh yards eggs ... But my neighbors and I have worked out a pretty good deal.
My garden is only about 6'x9' and I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, bell peppers, green onions and jalapenos.
Another neighbor has a little bigger garden, and he grows beans, peas, potatoes and watermelons.
An older lady down the road grows greens, garlic, onions and okra.

We just eat all we want and trade our excess with each other to eat fresh, freeze, can or pickle.

Yes , thank you. trump has a history of taking a good business or creating one and driving it into the ground. Leaving a lot up to chance and inviting rapid , unstable , uncontrolled growth. Temporarily seems good in the past ng term the tortoise ( slow and sure ) wins the race. In government you want stability. That's what makes US strong.

Agreed in a minimal manner. Despite what trump has told you , especially in today's world , presidents have very little control on the price of goods.

When I was a teen (1951-1957) My family bought prepared chickens from a local rancher. They were very large and tasted better than store sold chickens. CA stopped the rancher from giving drugs to chickens and we did not buy from that rancher after that.

That's the way we do it. My gardening buddy is also my canning buddy. For example, she cans applesauce from the bushels of apples she gets from her mom's orchard and she trades me jars of applesauce for jars of carrots and beans, which grow well in my big garden. It works out great. I have more room than she does for potatoes and squash and cabbage, which I share with her and the parishioners at my church who don't have room for gardens. We also donate produce to a monastery of nuns and they love it all!

To each their own , most people don't want the drugs. Have a good day. It's time for Two by Twos. Goodbye.

If we get chickens it's from the Amish store. They're $13 but drug free. Make great homemade soups. Avoiding chemicals is necessary for health.

Jealous ... :auiqs.jpg:

None of us grow cabbage because I am about the only one who would use a decent amount of it ...
And it stays pretty warm here long enough that I wouldn't plant it until as late as mid-November at times.

By that time the Holidays are already close at hand ...
It's hunting season and I harvest a little meat for the freezer ... Yadda-yadda-yadda.
Anyway ... The cabbage doesn't get planted
