The 16th amendment was passed in 1913, the same year as the Federal Reserve Act which turned over our monetary system to a bunch of international bankers that extend credit. The banking oligarchs knew that the best way to ensure repayment for fiat currency created from nothing was to tax the people whose labor moves this fiat currency backed by nothing of an intrinsic value.
