I Got The Best Of My Basil Harvested Today

Today was warm...tomorrow will be warmer...and then it gets cold.

Basil starts losing its flavor at around 50 degrees and dies at 40 degrees.

I have 5 large plants in my garden...and I've harvested the best portions of each plant...but there's still alot to harvest. That will be tomorrows job!

Can't make a killer spaghetti/pizza sauce without sweet basil!!!

Wish me luck :)

Basil is one of the few herbs, like parsley, that just doesn't work dried.

Well..I got the hoe & me..and after it's semi-cleared I got glyphosate,

I would suggest you skip the hoe & go right to the round up...it has to be sprayed on the leaves in order to kill the roots.

I went thru this a few years before I learned that one. UGH!

I was thunkin' about making some homemade sausage with hamburger, basil, fresh cracked black pepper and fennel seed.

Whatchya thunk?

Thyme is better in spaghetti sauce... just sayin. My opinion anyway. A deeper flavor profile.
Fresh basil is awesome in Bruschetta, of course pesto and basil vinaigrette is good too.
Basil doesn't hold up to heat. So if you use it in sauces, you have to put it in very late...when it is basically done cooking.
Fresh basil loses it's flavor in no time if cooked long.
Just my experience and opinion.

Yup...I've done it a thousand times.

As a tomatter of fact I usually don't wait for tomatoes to get fully ripe on the vine because if you pick them...more will grow.
True, but if they aren't vine ripe, they won't have any flavor. I love vine ripened tomatoes, great flavors. I never dreamed that I would be giving up great tomatoes and jalapenos when I moved north from CA. Oh well the sacrifices we make.
