What an odd thing to say.So why does a 74 year old cancer survivor spend his last years alienating people? Wouldn't it be more interesting to engage?

There are several ways in which I am late, I don't share them all.
But I am 74, I live just outside Portland, Maine. I am an intellectual, and Progressive.
I used to be a hiker and backpacker, and miss that like crazy.
After the cancer, I wasn't in a good place, so I got an ebike. I had lots of bikes before that, I've ridden my bike across Italy, from the Adriatic to the Med; Italy was great.
I am really into history, and that lead me to people that used economics to understand history better. Starting in the 1970s, stuffy old history came to life when nearly every discipline was brought to bear on history, from accounting to zoology.
I get kicked out of most forums because I do not suffer fools. Don't worry, Mods, I've been kicked out of better, and I don't take it personally.
I will talk about books, a fave is What Hath God Wrought, a pulitzer winning history of the era between the War of 1812 and the Civil War. I had written that era off as uninteresting, man was I ever wrong. It's terrific, and the best writing I have ever seen in a work of history.
Good to have another progressive on here. Not many of us. We are outnumbered.
BTW, there is no better forum than USMB.
Yes!!!I like reading economic history, especially about the early oil industry, and railroads. It helps to understand a lot of later history as well.
Yes!!!
See if your library can get you What Hath God Wrought.

Have I got a book for you:Looks interesting. I usually scour archive.org looking for new scans a lot, especially for books that include costs and production numbers.
Of course it matters. As a supposed "intellectual" you should know that. They were actual a century ago, language changes over time.
In any case, does it matter?
Course not, if cheap points are all ya got...
Socialists, communists, trade unionists....all the same, sport.I love it how modern day Notsees (you) don't realize that you are just like the 1940 Nazi's. Just like them. But dumb asses like you will say "Hitler was a Socialist"
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
I have a better one "A Theory of Justice" by Rawls.Have I got a book for you:
The Rise and Fall of American Growth, by Gordon.
I should preface this by saying he was wrong. Despite that, it's one of my favorite books.

Nope, you can use it either way if your intent is on the up and up.Of course it matters. As a supposed "intellectual" you should know that.
Economic growth is in direct proportion to government growth. The or ethe government grows the less the economy grows. Gordon was just another left wing thinker blaming inequality which is normal in a free society. Its economic mobility that matters the ability and freedom to increase personal wealth. The enemy of that is government. No better example was the Biden economic disaster. Massive debt based expansion of government, 1000s of regulations, destructive and manipulate energy policies and an open border. All with one goal expand government power. What we got was massive inflation and a reduction in private wealth crushing the middle class.Have I got a book for you:

Incorrect. Language has been developed over centuries. Words, and their EXACT meaning matter.Nope, you can use it either way if your intent is on the up and up.
Dictionaries are descriptive, not prescriptive.
Sorry, kiddo, not how it works.Incorrect. Language has been developed over centuries. Words, and their EXACT meaning matter.
Leftists corrupt language so that they can ascribe whatever meaning is expedient for their particular goal at any particular time.

The first modern dictionary was the Oxford, in the 1800s, they realised they couldn't control language, and that it would change.
This isn't political.
