Hypocrisy of establishment Republicans glaringly obvious in stadium subsidies

Atlanta's Turner Field Is Dying -- And American Sanity Is Dying With It | Will Bunch

Hypocrisy of establishment Republicans glaringly obvious in the latest parasitical move by a pro-sport franchise.

You wonder how many of these frauds are getting some sort of kickback.

the Brave's current stadium is less than 20 years old. They couldn't get 200+million in overpriced idiotic "improvements" they wanted from Atlanta so they went to a more submissive group, the Republican controlled commission of Cobb County where they will get 450 million in subsidies. The lone Democrat on the commission was the only one to act halfway responsible and voted to give the decision more time for voters to discover what a rip-off it is.

It's not socialism when Republcans do it for corporations, banks, and sports stadiums. as well as reight-wing nut jobs radio shows.

Alex Jones - $6 million a year for his operations.

Hannity - $200 million from Bilderberg

Limbaugh - $400 million from Bilderberg

Is any of that from tax money?

No? I didn't think so.

It cant be said enough that the establishment Republicans in Cobb county supported this idiotic 450 million subsidy of the braves.

Oh whatthefuckever.. go smoke some more pot and go back to sleep.

yeah just stick your head in the sand over one of the biggest wastes of government money happening at the state level, subsidized sport stadiums. Must be some parasite that profits off of the government teat.

How about subsidizing our own human beings?

How can anyone be against investing in people?

The $870 figure is pure libturd fantasy. That would make almost the entire budget a corporate subsidy. Only the lowest grade of moron would swallow that.

Nobody cares pal..... get over yourself. Do you have any clue how much money gets pumped into the economy, and taxes are collected due to professional sports?

Geeze Louise you lefty moonbats fret over the stupidest shit.

Subsidizing human beings? What a colossally stupid statement.. The fact that in his world people require subsidizing says it all.

"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." - Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain)

I think the reason politicians are frequently called hypocrites is the public positions they take are usually just for political gains, while they may often hold different views privately. When the private position comes to light it might clash with their voting record and thus the charge of hypocrisy.

if it was brought up more people would care, the idiots paying huge ticket prices to go to these games is dropping every year.

And it should be "conservatives" that care about it the most.

Cobb County itself is a remarkable microcosm of what happens when republicans own an electorate, everything and I mean everything gets filtered through the secretive good-ole-boy network for maximum skimming off the top. I once lived near there and the whole place is like a gated community where the brown and the poor fear to tread.

I call BS!

The demographic breakdown in Metro Atlanta according to the 2010 census as follows:

54% Black
38% White
10% Hispanic

The demogaphic breakdown in Cobb County:

56% White
29% Black
11% Hispanic

It looks like Cobb County is pretty well diversified, considering the Black population is about 13% in the US.

Great how they have insufficient money for teachers but plenty of cash for an unnecessary sports stadium. Awesome display of conservative values.

It couldn't have been too bad for teachers. None were fired!

Cobb County’s school board approved a 2013-14 budget Thursday night that will result in five furlough days for all employees, the loss of 182 teachers through attrition and a slimmer central administration staff.\

Only a handful of teachers protested the budget before Thursday night’s vote, which was passed 4-3.

No. YOU don't care asswipe. BUT you DO care enough to derail the thread posting opinions.

As to the OP, didn't Bu$h II do something like this in Tejas?

It isn't an opinion that professional sports generates a shitload of revenue & taxes.

Sports, Jobs, & Taxes: Are New Stadiums Worth the Cost?
In our forthcoming Brookings book, Sports, Jobs, and Taxes, we and 15 collaborators examine the local economic development argument from all angles: case studies of the effect of specific facilities, as well as comparisons among cities and even neighborhoods that have and have not sunk hundreds of millions of dollars into sports development. In every case, the conclusions are the same. A new sports facility has an extremely small (perhaps even negative) effect on overall economic activity and employment. No recent facility appears to have earned anything approaching a reasonable return on investment. No recent facility has been self-financing in terms of its impact on net tax revenues. Regardless of whether the unit of analysis is a local neighborhood, a city, or an entire metropolitan area, the economic benefits of sports facilities are de minimus.

right you are Dot Com

W. Bush was a government parasite long before he became president.

the following is from wikipedia.

After working on his father's successful 1988 presidential campaign, Bush learned from fellow Yale alumnus William DeWitt, Jr., that family friend Eddie Chiles wanted to sell the Texas Rangers baseball franchise along with the new sports dome; built on land acquired under eminent domain law and built under funding financed through taxpayers' funds backed by a bond issued for its debt. The new home of the Texas Rangers is still being contested in court by the original landowner who has not received payment for the land. The sports dome has not yet been paid off with the tax increase enacted to pay off the bond. The selling of the baseball team included the new stadium, which accounts for the huge profits the investors received

................When the Rangers franchise was sold for $250 million in 1998, at a total profit of $170 million, Bush personally received $14.9 million for his $600,000 investment.

Establishment republicans aren't hypocrites. They love all sorts of subsidies, grants and plain old welfare handouts.

That's why there is a mounting backlash against them.

I think most get elected saying they're going to be responsible for tax dollars. When they do something like this in Cobb Co. they are being hypocrites.

Don't know about Atlanta, but living just outside Houston I've watched commiecrats doing the same thing on steroids, so I really don't see where you have any room to bitch about parties. Politicians in general are screwed up and exactly why we need term limits so these assholes never get comfortable in the job before they are gone.

there are democrats in office near Houston Texas?

both parties do it you are correct but it is less hypocritical for Dems because they dont usually place a lot of emphasis on running government "like a business" as Reps seem to do.

I agree on term limits.
