Humans May Be the Only Intelligent Life in the Universe, If Evolution Has Anything to Say.

It comes down to whether intelligence is a probable outcome of natural selection, or an improbable fluke.

It's a big Universe. Even if intelligent life IS a fluke, the odds are still pretty good that it exists,

I guarantee the universe has many intelligent life forms

Humans only been around 200,000 years .
The universe is 13-14 B

Now just imagine life only at 2 million years!!
It makes humans look primitive
According to Fermi Paradox, if such life existed, it would have colonized our Galaxy. Thus, intelligent life does not exist in the Universe.

Intelligence is the question.

According to our own subjective standards.

There might be stuff out there that’s beyond our understanding or comprehension.

No doubt ... but, even if we don't comprehend it ... perhaps, especially if we don't understand it ... we can still, if we ever detect it, judge it to be intelligent if it ...

... transmits signals using technology ... is self aware ... engages in deterministic activities that are not essential to survival.

Liu Cixin, in his book "The Dark Forest" (sequel to "Three Body Problem") has some pretty interesting theories regarding intelligent life in The Galaxy (which are also pretty dark).

1. Life in the galaxy grown exponentially so that The Galaxy may actually be teaming with billions of societies. However, there is limited only be resources in the galaxy, of which there is a fixed amount.

2. There is a vast spectrum of technological societies in The Galaxy. Technological advances come in bursts, they are not linear. So, a technological society that is behind us today may be far ahead of us tomorrow, or vice versa.

3. Any society that broadcasts its location could be a benevolent society or a malevolent rival for the limited resources of The Galaxy.

4. There is no way to determine if a society is benevolent or malevolent without significant communication that would reveal your location to that society. And, even if the detected society IS currently benevolent, there is no guarantee that they wouldn't suddenly become a rival if they find themselves short of resources.

5. So, sufficiently technologically advanced societies would, as a matter of survival of their society, destroy any society that makes its presence known to The Galaxy.

This is a possible explanation for why a galaxy teeming with intelligent life may be quite silent.

I’ve often wondered if there are more than the six senses which limit us to what we can see or hear.

There might be sights and colours we can’t see, sounds we can’t hear.

Of course there are. Even on our own planet, there are plants and animals that perceive The Universe much differently than we do.

Birds and other animals can sense Earth's magnetic fields and use that sense for navigating over vast distances.

Many creatures see light far above and below the spectrum that humans perceive.

The same holds true for audio frequencies.

Many (probably most) animals have a far more developed sense of smell and taste than humans.

Mosquitos have receptors that allow them to sense concentrations of CO2 and use that sense to find the humans and animals off whose blood they live by their exhalations.

The platypus can detect creatures swimming in muddy water by sensing the bioelectrical currents in their body.

Odds don't create life.

No ... biomolecular processes create life ... and they will be operating all through the galaxy.

Odds don't create life, but odds don't prohibit it either.

Odds could prevent it.

It may be that the process for turning chemistry into life is so complex and dependent upon the right circumstances at the right time that it has never happen before.

The fact that after decades of serious research we can't create life in a lab is an indication that may be the case.

The facts of the matter are as such:

1. Our Chemists and Biologists can't create life.

2. Everywhere we look in the universe it seems to be hostile to life as we understand it.

3. We only have one data point so the cold hard fact is that we have no proof of it existing elsewhere.

The problem is that we have been brainwashed with Science Fiction to be absolutely convinced that life exist elsewhere. Every time we turn on the TV or go to the movies we see aliens so they have to exist, right? The science reality, as we have right now, says earth is the only place where life exist.

When (or if) we ever get another data point that will change everything but that hasn't happen yet.

If you are interested in the subject (like I am) I suggest you watch some of the Cool Worlds Lab videos. They have several dedicated to the subject. Dr. Kipping has done a great job of exploring science reality. It has enhanced my understanding of what we are really up against with astrostatistics. There are several videos that have been posted on Youtube by Cool Worlds Lab on the subject.
