It sounds to me like you were one of the gangs that stuck people's heads in toilets. People like that found out in Junior High School to leave me alone because I was a berserker. Once I was forced to fight, I never stopped until the other guy stopped moving or I was pulled off. By the time I got to high school all six foot and 140 pounds of me never had a fight because people would take the bullies aside and say, "leave him alone, he will kill you". Money isn't the issue, it's motivation and parental support. Most teachers (at east in L.A. Unified School District where I went) don't really give a damn about student success. A few do and they are worth their weight in gold, most are there to get a paycheck. The higher up the educational ladder you go, the worse it is, Administrators NEVER care about the kids, they are just attendance numbers for extra funding. There is an old, but very accurate saying, "those that can DO, those than can't do, TEACH, those that can't teach ADMINSTER". I always knew the first two, my wife who was a career Special Ed teacher taught me the third.

Abstract
The Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency reports that the most reliable indicator of violent crime in a community is the proportion of fatherless families. Fathers typically offer economic stability, a role model for boys, greater household security, and reduced stress for mothers. This is especially true for families with adolescent boys, the most crime-prone cohort. Children from single-parent families are more prone than children from two-parent families to use drugs, be gang members, be expelled from school, be committed to reform institutions, and become juvenile murderers. Single parenthood inevitably reduces the amount of time a child has in interaction with someone who is attentive to the child's needs, including the provision of moral guidance and discipline. According to a 1993 Metropolitan Life Survey, "Violence in America's Public Schools," 71 percent of teachers and 90 percent of law enforcement officials state that the lack of parental supervision at home is a major factor that contributes to the violence in schools. Sixty-one percent of elementary students and 76 percent of secondary children agree with this assessment.

His point was correct. Single mothers are the main cause of poverty and crime as well as poor academic performance. A child needs two parents to develop to the best of his ability. Want an example. Blakcs have 73% single mothers 53 % of homicide and poor academic performance and mean IQ 85.
