How to cut school costs and improve student health.

We'll let five-year-olds walk a half mile (As a five-year-old I walked 8/10th mile one way to school). Distance can increase as kids get older.
The distance may not matter as much as the terrain. Would you let a five year old walk 1/3 of a mile if it involved crossing a major highway, railroad tracks, through vacant lots, or past a chemical plant?

We can also find other ways to ensure that the kids get their exercise, but walking to and from school doesn't take up class time. The irony of PT/gym is that the kids are physically idle most of the time.

It's interesting to me how when "conservatives" think it's a great idea, it's okay to usurp the wishes of the parents.

So you're comfortable with the govt deciding the children need to walk?

Huh.
I would say yes , but it ain't safe with all the Pervs and Homeless Junkies out there.

Park the school bus at least 3/4 mile from school. Kids can walk to school and back from there. Kids living within 3/4 mile can walk to and from home. This will give kids needed exercise and save busing costs as well.
Would they have to walk by a Catholic Church with white guy pedophiles too.

No. Just by filthy BLM Black muggers and killers. And looters. Notice who is looting the Firestorm in LA. Bush Babies from Watts.
Wow, did you get that information from a white guy in charge of the fire department Watergate.

My whole point in this thread is: you can't say schools shouldn't take the place of parents and then demand that the school attend to students' obesity problem.

Pick a lane, I guess

That's why God gave us legs.

Isnt exercise and physical fitness taught in public schools anymore?

I guess if they grow up to be fat blobs riding the electric cart at walmart its no skin off your nose
The physical and mental well-being of kids has never been terribly important to educators.

Yes. The curriculum goes through an approval process and then the school board votes on it.

But so-called "conservatives" have decided what is good for the kids, so hey. No need for parental/local approval. Just do it.

Bunch of hypocrites that will send our party the way of Woke in 15 years if we don't get a handle on it.

I hope all public teachers are not as irrational as you

But I fear that most of them are

"This is good for the kids. Therefore we should do it even though it is of no educational value and parents might not approve"

--Both you and the teachers who push gender ideology

It is, we just go through the proper channels, involving parents and the locally elected school board.

King Nutz would open a school called Big State School, and if King Nutz decides the kids are fat, well there they are.
