I have been reading a very interesting new book about Al-Jazeera, the Arab news network based in Qatar. Believe it or not, Al-Jazeera might be the mostly despised group of people in the world.
**Americans dislike Al-Jazeera because the network routinely broadcasts unedited statements by terrorist leaders
**Much of the Arab hierarchy dislikes Al-Jazeera because the network routinely broadcats unedited statements by Bush and Blair
**Saudi Arabia has virtually banned Al-Jazeera for critizing decisions made by the Saudi Royal Family, which are normally punishable by death.
**Many Iraqis dislike Al-Jazeera because the network doesn't criticize the American occupation enough
**Both the PLO and Hammas have attacked Al-Jazeera for interviewing Israelis and condemning suicide bombings
**Israel has banned Al-Jazeera because it once broadcast footage of the Iraeli army attacking a refugee camp
In fact, the only time government officials anywhere in the Middle East like Al-Jazeera is when they want air time. Al-Jazeera openly offers air time to anyone on any time. This makes much of the Arab world uncomfortable, because they prefer state censorship.
