The ocean stores 1000 times more heat than the atmosphere. The ocean establishes climate by how it distributes that heat. There's plenty of empirical climate evidence that shows the ocean is responsible for abrupt climate changes. There's no evidence that shows the atmosphere is responsible for abrupt climate changes.
