The media is reporting that the confirmation of Pete Hegseth is a done deal! I am really disappointed how Senate Republicans can be cowed by Donald Trump they are about to really tarnish their reputation confirming Mr. Hegseth who is a compellingly unsuitable candidate. The most alarming thing is not that he doesn't have the experience and education to give the President a first rate second opinion to the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff if America was confronted with needing to do a military operation a vital role for the Secretary; for Mr. Hegseth hasn't received extensive training at America's War College and he hasn't even commanded a brigade level military unit, let alone a higher level unit! It is also not that America doesn't know the truth about a key fact on the alleged 2017 sexual assault, did he secretly drug that women before he had sex with her. Which if he did absolutely disqualifies him for the U.S. Armed Forces has a sexual assault problem so the top guy in the Department cannot have a history of being a sexual predator.

The insurmountable problem with the candidate Pete Hegseth well what should be insurmountable is that you cannot trust Mr. Hegseth to say to President Trump I cannot do that because it is against the Law. With the track record of President Trump that quality for the Secretary of Defense should be non-negotiable! Listen I like President Trump I really like he stands up for many things that are good and speaks out forthrightly why it is good when many other people don't because politically it is not prudent to speak out for what is good! Nevertheless Mr. Trump has a shortcoming that reaches into the stratosphere where he often doesn't know what the line of good is frankly he doesn't adequately appreciate that America's form of government is there is three coequal branches of government and this means Congress enacts the law and the President must follow the law, in America the rule of law is paramount not even the President has the power to disobey the law. I can see President Trump ordering the Secretary of Defense to send in the military to take over the Panama Canal or to take over Greenland I suspect that would be against the law but what I know for sure is that would rightly be perceived by people throughout the world that America is acting as a colonial power and that will be a devastating turn of events long-term for the American people as people throughout the world deem America as not trustworthy!

There is so many issues that arise with President Trump not always having a good person's moral red line where things devolve into a nightmare. I could see President Trump ordering the bombing of civilians as acceptable collateral damage, I could see President Trump putting in too few troops in a military operation to save money and ultimately a lot of U.S. armed forces personnel being killed because of the misstep. But most importantly what I see happening is some black guy is unjustly murdered by one or more white guys and social unrest begins, a Geroge Floyd scenario, and you have Democrat stronghold cities, large ones, where the Democrat government stands down for political reasons and the protesters go full throttle with civil disobedience and non-murder violence. I can readily see President Trump taking the position that this lawlessness is not happening on my watch and he sends in the U.S. military against citizens and a whole bunch of citizens get killed by the military and the U.S. citizenry gets fed up and takes moves to oust President Trump and President Trump just enters into a state of rage and tons of people end up getting hurt and God knows where situation ends! Senate Republicans should remember it is the sons and daughters from your state that encompass the military and it is these patriotic men and women that will be forced to break the law and may end up being hurt! Senate Republicans should consider it really really may be the Secretary of Defense that is the last line of defense between the President of the United States doing something that is a disaster beyond description and America maintaining our reputation as a great country, an admired leader amongst the family of nations, so put a very trustworthy Secretary of Defense candidate in the job!

Easy, he's the right guy for the job.

Sucks to be you.

The wormy politicians have corrupted cabinet appointments like they corrupt everything else they touch. All backroom deal making, getting their picks approved so the kickbacks can flow. That's why they hated confirming Hegseth, he doesn't owe them anything and is not one of the generals they control.

Holy hell dude.

I know I've had some interesting takes, but these run on paragraphs are what manifests when one combines benadryl, nyquil and speedballs.

It's all in your head.

Turn off the CNN and relax.

Trump doesn't want intelligent people in positions of power he wants stool pigeons instead.

It's amazing Trump nominated the least qualified person in America to lead millions of military members whose lives are going to depend on this idiot's decisions.

The job of SecDef is almost impossible to conceive in its immensity. You manage a workforce of 2.87 million employees and a budget of $842 billion. You are responsible for the longest and most complex logistics operation ever devised by man. You are tasked with handling today’s national security challenges and looking over the horizon to plan for challenges that will appear years after you have left the job. You must have a fluent understanding of large organizations and bureaucracies. You must be a subject-matter expert in either war fighting, technology, or international affairs—but it helps if you have mastery over more than one of those disciplines.

Here are the backgrounds of the last nine SecDefs:

Lloyd Austin: Vice chief of staff of the Army, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, commander of CENTCOM.

Mark Esper: Deputy assistant SecDef, senior leader at Raytheon, secretary of the Army.

Jim Mattis: Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, commander of CENTCOM.

Ash Carter: Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, Kennedy School of Government, under SecDef for acquisition, technology, and logistics.

Chuck Hagel: Founder of a technology company, chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, U.S. senator for twelve years.

Leon Panetta: Member of Congress for sixteen years, White House chief of staff, director of CIA.

Robert Gates: Deputy national security advisor, director of CIA.

Donald Rumsfeld: Member of Congress for six years, head of White House Office of Economic Opportunity, ambassador to NATO, White House chief of staff.

William Cohen: U.S. senator for eighteen years (preceded by six years in the House of Representatives), including serving on the Senate’s Intelligence, Armed Services, and Government Affairs Committees.

Then there’s Hegseth, whose CV reads:

  • Served in the Army National Guard.
  • Briefly led a small, failing nonprofit.
  • Helped host a weekend show on Fox News.

Looking at all of this, you’re probably asking yourself, “How is this guy getting a confirmation hearing at all? Especially with his personal vices?”

Vice is a Moat

Yeah, Austin was so great he went AWOL.

Sheesh you're stupid.

The short answer is that if Hegseth sucks, Trump will politely kick him to the history books..😉

No he won't or Trump would not have nominated Hegseth in the first place.

Trump is addicted to Fox News. That's why he hires them and recruits his economic advisors from Amazon reviews.

He thinks he is still running a game show. Going for the ratings.

Oh well, it looks like the reputation of Congress has been tarnished once again

Who saw that coming? Geesh!

Let's start building our bunkers again like in the Cold War, and buy some supplies. The prognosis for the next four years doesn't look good.

Wow .. I didn't know you could read Trump's mind.

just wondering.. 🤔

How do you think he'd respond to your post?

I can think of only four Senators GOP who might vote against Pete.

Not enough.
