Im not making the claim that any of them are competent or incompetent or that one is more competent than another. That's you. Im pointing out that you morons thinking that Hegseth is unqualified/incompetent based on him not having been a General is just hilarious given that 90% of previous Sec Def's have not been Generals and 30% have had zero military experience at all. It illustrates that you and
Stann don't actually have any idea what qualifies a person to be Sec Def (this isnt me saying Hegseth is qualifed) and that your primary objection to Hegseth (and anyone Trump might nominate) is that he was nominated by Trump.
If you really want a list of terrible Sec Def's
McNamara mislead multiple US Presidents into and about Vietnam which lead to the deaths of over 50k service members
Rumsfeld was good the first time and pretty awful the second round Afghanistan mission creep, Iraq, etc etc.
Les Aspin was pretty terrible. He denied Gen Powell's requests for more tanks, armored vehicles and AC 130 gunships which lead to the Somalia debacle and Powell's early departure from the CJCS position.
I'm not a huge fan of Hegseth (or even a little one) but he hasn't gotten 50,000 US troops killed or embroiled us in multiple "forever wars" and he hasn't ignored generational minds like Powell that have gotten US service members killed due to lack of support.
