Easy. Democrats are for "more poor" people, not less poor people. The majority of democrats are relatively poor people, thus democrats have come to believe more poor people is a good thing for their power base. Case in point; gun owners. The GOP along with their NRA benefactors convinced every Rufus, Skeeter, and Butch that Obama was coming for their guns.

Case in point; homosexual marriages. The GOP along with their Christian Coalition backers convinced their base that there is a threat to THEIR marriage by persons they never met, never will meet, and never meet anyone who knows them.

Immigrants and the poor for that matter fit nicely as threats to their base. What isn't discussed is that a lot of business owners who may be conservatives would rather hire an illegal alien off the books instead of paying a legitimate US Citizen formally.

Outsourcing hasn't helped the poor, and as 250 million has been proposed for repatriation, part of the solution will be pressure on nations that allow children, and adults, to show up on our borders. BOTH borders, Canadians waltz in at will. The few POSSIBLE illegal immigrants I have known from Mexico or Central/South America, did farm work, for how much, I never was told. Probably below legal wages. Canadians walk over & take better paying jobs. Repatriate illegal entrants, cut foreign aid to countries that do not respect US laws on immigration.

Because rather than them staying illegal so illegal employers (corporations) can hire them under the table illegally thus lowering wages, if they are legal that will bring their wages up and they will then be paying taxes.

In a perfect world us liberals would ship all the illegals home today and they would have to apply for citizenship the normal way. But unfortunately America has two signs on our border. A little one that says stay out and a big one that says HELP WANTED.
