How about we return the names to all the historic US military bases as a big middle finger to all those whose sensibilities were offended by ...

Oh, yeah! Just do it.

No. Another waste of money. We should have renamed them after their locations instead of for people.

I noticed the other day that the weather maps on TV were showing Fort Bragg California. north of San Fransico on the coast. I never knew there was such a place. I guess with the other Fort Bragg in NC they didn't want to confuse people.

What about all the street names? My liberal area has renamed dozens of streets after Female Blacks.

We have a subdivision in town where all the street names are Confederate related.

Of course, the NOtVA transplants who moved in went to the town and complained.

The town told them if they could get everyone on the street to agree to a name change (Ewell St.), pay for the new signage, and the cost of the 911 change, they could get the street name changed.

They never heard another peep out of them....Ewell St. it remains!

I always thought that Ft. Bragg was named that way as an insult to The South given what a despised and terrible general he was.

Most of the northern Generals were bad, a collection of nasty murdering drunks. Bragg was tied with Breckenridge as worst Confederate General, I think.

Same think here. They keep sniveling for changing the town's name, and they keep getting voted down. lol

Personally if it weren't for the racist snivelers, I would vote for a shorter name, kind of a pain in the ass to spell out. Have to wait for the snivelers to move away first, though. Naming the town 'I' would be great.

Don't worry. It'll always be Fort Benning in the hearts and minds of those who passed through it.

Not hardly....At least he won on more than one occasion and Bragg hated him.

On May 5, General Robert E. Lee, commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, ordered Breckinridge to take command of a reconnaissance mission to scout the federal forces under Franz Sigel near Winchester, Virginia as part of the Lynchburg Campaign.

With a force of about 4,800 men, including 261 cadets from the Virginia Military Institute, he defeated Sigel's 6,300 men at the Battle of New Market on May 15, driving them west across the Shenandoah River.

In doing so, Breckinridge's troops protected Lee's flank, defended a crucial railroad junction, and protected the valuable wheat supply.
