House Republicans blocked the release of the Matt Gaetz ethics report

In the course of investigation of federal crimes they find multiple state law violations, they just toss it in the can or notify state authorities for an investigation?
They definitely can. And they can even pass evidence. As they likely did with Trump and Fani Willis's investigation.

Hence, the reason for releasing the report. If he had done nothing wrong, he’s exonerated in the report and there is no longer any speculation. The only reason to bury it is because that’s not the case.

Exactly what they did by not releasing it. You just contradicted yourself in the same statement.
By that logic, every time the FBI/DOJ was in front of congress and refused to answer questions about the accusations about lawfare against Trump, they created the optics of guilt?

I believe that is in fact true, but I'd like to know if you do.

Exactly. The guy has been credibly accused of sleeping with underage girls and they have no problem burying it because he's a member of their MAGA cult, but they'll keep calling the president "Pedo Joe."
By what criteria is the accusation "credible?" How have you tested its credibility?

Why do this? If Gaetz has done nothing wrong, one would think he'd have wanted this report released a couple of weeks ago to put everything to rest, but he didn't and ultimately had to withdraw himself from the AG nomination because he didn't have the votes to pass Senate confirmation.

Party of family values.

Overview of the Situation

House Republicans did block the release of the ethics report concerning former Representative Matt Gaetz. On December 5, 2024, the House voted 206-198 against efforts to make the report public, which investigated allegations of sexual misconduct and potential illegal activities involving Gaetz.

Reasons for Blocking the Report

The primary reason cited by Republican leaders for blocking the report was that Matt Gaetz is no longer a member of the House, leading them to argue that the Ethics Committee no longer has jurisdiction over him. House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed that releasing the report would not be appropriate given Gaetz's departure from Congress.

Lobbying and Political Dynamics

The decision to block the report appears to be influenced by party loyalty and the desire to protect a fellow Republican. The vote was largely along party lines, with Republicans uniting to prevent the report's release, which many viewed as potentially damaging to the party's image. This situation reflects broader political dynamics where party members often rally to shield one another from scrutiny, especially in cases involving serious allegations.

So, the blocking of the Matt Gaetz ethics report by House Republicans was a strategic move rooted in party loyalty and jurisdictional arguments, reflecting the complexities of political maneuvering in Congress.

==>Love me, love my dog. Love Trump or Gaetz, love his reputation! lol. :)

He was exonerated by Biden's DOJ.

If Gaetz was a Democrat.....

Nothing in your 'shocking' article implicating anyone other than Greenberg.
Gaetz claimed the 17 year old had an ID indicating they were 18.

Guess where she could have gotten the phony ID from?

Where does it say that in your shocking article?

Ah ha....'could'...?

Care to expand on that?

Gaetz knew his friend was in the phony ID business.
He was also involved in underage sex trafficking, where he likely provided his victims with phony ID's to avert suspicion.

Which also explains why the FBI said their testimony was unreliable, if they used phony ID's to hide their being underage. There would be reasonable doubt that Gaetz knew their true age.

You must like the concept of a person being tried in the court of public opinion, taz. :rolleyes-41:

What did Gaetz say, on why he quit?

Gaetz told conservative personality Charlie Kirk that he doesn't intend to join the 119th Congress in January.

"I do not intend to join the 119th Congress," Gaetz told Kirk. "... I'm going to be fighting for President Trump. I'm going to be doing whatever he asks of me, as I always have. But I think that eight years is probably enough time in the United States Congress."

.
He said in a social media post that while he had "excellent meetings" with senators, his confirmation battle was taking away from the work of the incoming Trump administration.

"While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition," he wrote on social media. "There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I'll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump's DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1."
