House G.O.P. Floats Medicaid Cuts and More to Finance Trump’s Tax Cuts

You’re in denial. The entitled Governmwnt workers will just have to go,to the office like normal people, and then we’ll see how many surplus workers we have.

Wow, so they'll go to the office like they did only a few years ago, like the majority do now. Some may quit, which is fine. I don't really spend a lot of time thinking about whether someone works in a home or office, or whether they're going to quit over having to go into work. Businesses adapt. Organizations adapt. People adapt.

As it is, there are tons working 3 to 4 hours a day for full-time pay. And no, it’s not that they are so much more competent that they can do a full day’s work in a half day. It’s that there are so many extra employees on staff that there isn’t enough work to go around.

You may not realize this, but there's plenty of extra labor in the private sector, too. Big Tech and finance firms hoarded employees throughout the pandemic. I've worked all kinds of jobs. There are some private sector jobs where you don't have to do shit and some you work crazy hours, and the same can be true of fed/fed contract work.

Starting in March, they will have to go to the office for full days. It’s long overdue.

It's not a bad thing that they are returning to the office. That way they're just as miserable as the rest of working americans. Plus, some people feel better when they can say "they're working for me." It's a power trip. Those types of people are horrible people to work for.

OMG. We have half of the government workers putting in half-days at home. Let’s get them back to the office to put in 8 hours, and then we can see how overstaffed the Governmwnt is. And then we can cut the fat.

Taxpayers should NOT be paying government workers to “work” from home while they have hour-long personal phone calls, take walks, lie around the pool, go to the movies, get in 9 holes of golf (although the government did tell all the golfers to cut it out), hang out at restaurants for two hours, and work on their investment properties.

All the above are examples from real life.

Republicans are passing around lists of ideas to pay for Trump's new tax cuts. These include cuts to to Medicare, Medicaid, tariffs, and use taxes on people.
A complete list is noted in the article. Thoughts USMB?

Top Republicans are passing around an extensive menu of ideas to cover the cost of a massive tax cut and immigration crackdown bill. They could create a 10 percent tariff on all imports, bringing in an estimated $1.9 trillion. They could establish new work requirements for Medicaid recipients, bringing in $100 billion in savings.
They have even calculated that they could generate $20 billion by raising taxes on people who can use a free gym at the office, according to a 50-page list of options that the House Budget Committee has circulated in recent days.

The bigger challenge for Republican leaders is trying to figure out what can pass Congress and be signed by President Trump. With slim majorities in both chambers, they are searching for the right mix of policy changes that could offset some of the costs of Mr. Trump’s most expensive proposals, placating spending hard-liners who are concerned about ballooning the government’s debt, while also maintaining the support of more centrist members who are loath to slash popular programs.

House Republicans huddled in the Capitol on Wednesday to discuss a mix of options on the table.
Complicating their task is a political challenge: Many of the cuts Republicans are contemplating target programs aimed at helping low-income Americans, all in the service of paying for the extension of tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the wealthy.
The overarching goal is to push through a behemoth bill that cuts taxes and clamps down on immigration using a process called reconciliation, which would allow Republican leaders to avoid a filibuster and move legislation through the Senate with a simple majority, even if all Democrats are opposed.
Many of the G.O.P.’s anti-spending members have said they cannot support a bill that adds significantly to the nation’s debt. But most of the major policies Mr. Trump wants included in the legislation are extremely expensive. Extending the tax cuts he signed into law in 2017 alone is expected to cost $5 trillion.
That has left Republicans casting about for ways to offset those costs. The budget panel’s menu of possibilities includes everything from major clawbacks of current policy to lower-hanging fruit. Among many others, there are proposals to repeal major health care subsidy programs established by the Affordable Care Act, put caps on Medicaid funding, and end a policy that makes employer-provided meals and lodging tax-exempt.pl

Pay for tax cuts? What does that even mean? The govt doesn’t have to pay for tax cuts

Those people you describe sound like upper management corporate folk.

How are Medicaid recipients(nursing home residents mostly) going to report for work?

Nope. Regular people with no subordinates.
Well so they will return to the office. I'm good with that. Join the miserable ugly godforsaken idiotic rat race. It's awful and unhealthy. As for cuts to Medicaid, that would be immoral and wrong.

We need to make sure that people on Medicaid who are capable of a job actually have one. Unless you have small children or are physically unable, taxpayer support of your family should be contingent on your getting a job.

No cuts to social security, medicare, or Medicaid should be considered.
Depends what you mean by cut to a 35-year-old woman and her three older children (in school all day) who refuses to get even a part-time job, then that would be OK. She needs to do some level of work.

P.S. you do know Obama cut Medicare payments to fund Obamacare, don’t you?
Yep. I do. But there is that mindset of cutting things for the average worker so that the wealthy get their tax cuts. There are those in DC who would love to hammer away at things that help working people. Not sure why but hatred for lower income and middle class workers exists in our elected officials. Not all but some.

I can live with that. Heck I worked full time for over 40 years. I regret how hard i worked as well.

Nope. You are too indoctrinated by the liberal BS. And resentful of successful people.

I'm not indoctrinated by anything. I can read and observe. There exists a hatred of working poor and middle class workers. Those that are wealthy should have no more say or influence than those who aren't. That's my view. But in this nation they do have more influence. That's not at all a good thing.

There is one way to get ahead now. Retire as early as possible. Stay single, work, save. Don't take time to enjoy stuff. Work and save. Retire in one's early 50s. The new americsn dream.

Trump vowed to make Medicare stronger.
