The incoming Democrat House majority is readying legislation to criminalize private gun sales.
Ironically, the push comes nearly 227 years to the day after private gun ownership was hedged in by the Founding Fathers via the Second Amendment, which was ratified on December 15, 1791.

Why do I need to do a background check it is already illegal for a criminal to buy a firearm?

Possession of a firearm should never be a crime because of the Bill of Rights saying specifically that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

What is illegally done with the firearm should be the crime, not possessing the firearm.

I've been at auctions & when they auctioned a handgun, the winning bidder had to pick up his gun at a local gun shop.

Criminals don't get their guns at gun stores, gun sales or anywhere they have to fill out paperwork. Oh they can get someone to get a gun but then that someone has to fill out the paperwork.

There is a huge black market out there for guns. That's where criminals get theirs. Or they steal them. No paperwork. No identity.

Works very well for them.

Criminals don't buy guns at gun stores, nor do they buy guns from law abiding citizens that legally own them. They buy guns from other criminals, or steal them, so background checks will not affect the vast majority of criminal gun activity.
