Holy Smoke! We have a new Pope.

Cardinal Robert Prevost, an American missionary who spent his career ministering in Peru and leads the Vatican’s powerful office of bishops, was elected the first American pope in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church. Prevost, 69, took the name Leo XIV.

White smoke poured out of the Sistine Chapel chimney Thursday at 6:07 p.m. local time, signaling that a pontiff had been elected to lead the Catholic Church.

Robert Prevost comes the Archdiocese of Chicago. He served as an Arch Bishop in Peru for many years and is Naturalized Peruvian Citizen.

He becomes the First American Pope in the of 2,000 history of the Roman Church. His elevation to the Office Pope and the Bishop of Rome totally floored my wife (A former Cistercian Nun, she thought she live to an American as head of the Roman Church. crowds waiting to see the new Pontiff stretched St. Peters Square to the Tiber River. This is truly an amazing day.

Not a good sign:

"He is expected to build on Pope Francis’ reforms."

They could have picked a few that were more left leaning.

Have to wait and see what his first proclamation will be, and what his first homily covers.

Would have been more worried if he went with Francis II

He is a protege of Francis, and served in Peru.

I doubt that apple will fall far from the tree.

A little more than an hour later, we meet the newly elected Pope of the Roman Catholic Church as his holiness emerges from the Vatican balcony.

As the new Pope's name is read, the faithful, thousands who are present at Vatican square and on the streets of Rome, welcome and cheer the 267th predecessor to St. Peter,
Pope Leo the 14th, who is an American Cardinal, originally a native from Chicago. He ministered in Latin American.

Here's a little about Cardinal Robert Prevost who is 69 years old.
Dang...I called it!

I don't know if I am sensitive to anti-Americanism in my old age but it seemed to me that the boisterous crowd became subdued when it was announced that the Pope was American.

I know nothing about this new pope

But a reliable rule of thumb is if libs like him then he’s going to be bad news
