U.S. Military: Al-Qaeda Rebels Produced Sarin Gas For Chemical Attacks In Syria

U.S. military confirms rebels had sarin
As part of the Obama administration’s repeated insistence – though without offering proof – that the recent sarin gas attack near Damascus was the work of the Assad regime, the administration has downplayed or denied the possibility that al-Qaida-linked Syrian rebels could produce deadly chemical weapons.

However, in a classified document just obtained by WND, the U.S. military confirms that sarin was confiscated earlier this year from members of the Jabhat al-Nusra Front, the most influential of the rebel Islamists fighting in Syria.
The document says sarin from al-Qaida in Iraq made its way into Turkey and that while some was seized, more could have been used in an attack last March on civilians and Syrian military soldiers in Aleppo.

The document, classified Secret/Noforn – “Not for foreign distribution” – came from the U.S. intelligence community’s National Ground Intelligence Center, or NGIC, and was made available to WND Tuesday.

It revealed that AQI had produced a “bench-scale” form of sarin in Iraq and then transferred it to Turkey.

A U.S. military source said there were a number of interrogations as well as some clan reports as part of what the document said were “50 general indicators to monitor progress and characterize the state of the ANF/AQI-associated Sarin chemical warfare agent developing effort.”

“This (document) depicts our assessment of the status of effort at its peak – primarily research and procurement activities – when disrupted in late May 2013 with the arrest of several key individuals in Iraq and Turkey,” the document said.

“Future reporting of indicators not previously observed would suggest that the effort continues to advance despite the arrests,” the NGIC document said.

The May 2013 seizure occurred when Turkish security forces discovered a two-kilogram cylinder with sarin gas while searching homes of Syrian militants from the al-Qaida-linked Jabhat al-Nusra

“The rocket came from a place controlled by the terrorists and which is located close to the Turkish territory,” according to a statement from Damascus. “One can assume that the weapon came from Turkey.”

The report of the U.S. intelligence community’s NGIC reinforces a preliminary U.N. investigation of the attack in Aleppo which said the evidence pointed to Syrian rebels.

It also appears to bolster allegations in a 100-page report on an investigation turned over to the U.N. by Russia. The report concluded the Syrian rebels – not the Syrian government – had used the nerve agent sarin in the March chemical weapons attack in Aleppo.

While the contents of the report have yet to be released, sources tell WND the documentation indicates that deadly sarin poison gas was manufactured in a Sunni-controlled region of Iraq and then transported to Turkey for use by the Syrian opposition, whose ranks have swelled with members of al-Qaida and affiliated groups.

The documentation that the U.N. received from the Russians indicated specifically that the sarin gas was supplied to Sunni foreign fighters by a Saddam-era general working under the outlawed Iraqi Baath party leader, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri.

The VIPS memo to Obama reinforces separate videos, which show foreign fighters associated with the Syrian opposition firing artillery canisters of poison gas. One video shows Nadee Baloosh, a member of an al-Qaida-affiliated group Rioyadh al-Abdeen, admitting to the use of chemical weapons.

Where is the video they claim to have?
Classified info is not just given to one media outlet alone for no reason, they can't release the specifics of the so called classified document with even a picture.
World Nut Daily has in the past used this tactic to further their agenda.
Where is this document?
Where is the video?
Where is the truth ?

Now, a former analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency, Ray McGovern, similarly backs the claim that the Syrian rebels perpetrated the poison gas attack on Aug. 21

Where is his statements in quotation marks?
Why is there no interview or documentation of his supposed testimony?

I went the site of Ray McGovern
'CIA fabricated evidence to lure US into war with Syria' ? RT Op-Edge
He too mimics the same as does WND and yet offers no proof of his assertions. Only speculation, hearsay and conjecture. From a story released 3 days ago.

I also Googled al-Abdeen and the only thing that popped up was a report by a Syriannetwok.org site.

Again we see who the dupes are for the Syrians, the Russians and 2nd Amendment that is gullible enough to believe what our enemies tell him. Classy.

FSA firing canister rounds. I looked into this and this was fired in Beirut. Yet they claim to be FSA.

If they can fire these in Beirut, they can fire them in Syria.

Mortar fired canister round.

Try not to leap before you look.

What part of "it's already been confirmed by UN Inspectors that rebels have used sarin gas" don't you understand?

You are the one that needs to get up to speed Moonglow. No one is leaping here. Just cause you don't like the source doesn't invalidate the truth.

Why is it so hard to believe that any terrorist can make sarin? This is not rocket science.

How soon we forget the Japanese terror attacks?

1994: The Japanese religious sect Aum Shinrikyo released an impure form of sarin in Matsumoto, Nagano, killing eight people and harming over 200. (see Matsumoto incident)

1995: Aum Shinrikyo sect released an impure form of sarin in the Tokyo Metro. Thirteen people died. (see Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway)

The rebs may have sarin. I doubt they can make it, more likely they captured it regime forces.

American, Israeli, German, and French sources confirm that the regime launched the attack, and none of the counter arguments have even dented those sources' claims.

We have seen nothing that indicates that it could have shelled the areas to the extent they were hit.

We will see what the full UN report to the world will be and not have to rely on something like the WND.

And now for the rest of the story.................................

The UN were already there to investigate another site that alleged Sarin was used by the Rebels. That report has been put on hold indefinitely.

Congressional panels approve arms aid to Syrian opposition - Washington Post

In a letter to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, estimated that the military price tag for using U.S. troops to train and assist rebel forces from outside Syria would be about $500 million a year.

A panels approves it?

I thought the entire CONGRESS needs to vote on that.

Since when have they cared about that anymore.

Well it was a bi-partisan vote, the Senate is controlled by the Dems and House by the GOP and that control is mirrored in voting control within the panels.
I have a strong feeling that if the vote had been a few weeks later, the deal for arms to the rebels would of failed.

An Assad commander went rogue and used sarin in arty shells. Of course al-Qaida has sarin too. Zarqawi was manufacturing it in eastern Iraq ten years agao with Saddam's blessings. The US has no obligation to produce further evidence who used it. By doing so, we give away our intel gathering methods. There's enough anectodal evidence where the attack came from and intercepts clearly show there was an unauthorized use of that shit. Assad has no alternative to give up his stockpile, some of which came from Saddam's stash.

The next time sarin is used, who will democrats blame? Assad gave his up.

He's dispersing his chemical weapons all over territory his army still holds, which of course we are watching him do and mapping the new locations. A strike on those caches was never an option in the first place so little has changed other than that he's admitted he has them, and agreed to give them up, when he feels he no can stall no longer.

He admitted he had them over a year ago---that's no change.

He did not admit having them as of last week during the Charlie Rose interview.
