Hochul Signs Bill Forcing Big Oil to Pay for Climate Damage

Dupe.

You don't even try do you?

I don't think any oil companies are based in New York. They should just cease operations there. I believe that if they don't have brick and mortar locations, the state can't tax them. Let independent companies buy the oil out of state and import it and let them deal with the confiscatory taxes.

Yes, there are few manufacturing plants / refineries there. The rest is power companies and energy users. hence my query - are they going to tax car and bus drivers, power companies, and people that use coal and oil for heat?

New York to force oil, gas companies to pay reparations for ‘Climate Change’ damage

I want to see New York first PROVE they are responsible for any climate damage.

Then they can follow that up by proving that the benefits of petroleum didn't far outweigh any harm.

THEN they must show that the state was not complicit in asking for and welcoming those products.

And finally, they need to show that Oil knew of the harm and had any way of preventing it.

Then I would take action to bar all petroleum-based products from New York State, including:
  • Adhesives
  • Sealants
  • Cleaning products
  • Fertilizers
  • Fuel
  • Lubricants
  • Clothing
  • Medical equipment
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Road surfaces
  • Anything made of or using plastics
  • Cosmetics
  • Food additives
Each of these containing a whole plethora of items too numerous to list.

Basically, without Big Oil, New Yorkers would still be living in pre-Civil War conditions.

$12 a gal gas in NY and CA is coming...

Note the Dems DISHONEST, well LIE about climate change being the same as superfund type pollution as justification for stealing $75 billion? THERE'S NO LIE DEMS WON'T TELL!

Dupe.

Tell to moderators to merge them then I didn't see this post....idiot

New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a law that will require fossil fuel companies to pay for damages related to "climate impact" and adverse weather conditions, the governor's office announced on Thursday.

The self-described "landmark legislation" looks to create a "Climate Superfund" that will make New York more resilient to conditions such as flooding and extreme heat. "With nearly every record rainfall, heat wave, and coastal storm, New Yorkers are increasingly burdened with billions of dollars in health, safety, and environmental consequences due to polluters that have historically harmed our environment," Hochul said in a statement.

Democrat state Sen. Liz Krueger, a cosponsor on the bill, called the law a "shot that will be heard 'round the world.'"

Evidently, they did not get the Nov. 5th memo.....Oh well, some people you just can't reach.

The answer from "Big Oil" should be “tax deez nuts!”, then cease all petroleum fuel sales in her state, hopefully just before a state-wide snowstorm. ;)

Problem solved, problem staying solved.
I read through this and couldn't find how they propose to "force" oil companies to pay into this "superfund."

The devil will be in the details, and whatever it turns out to be will obviously be challenged in court. Hard to believe this kind of action would be constitutional, but as yet nobody knows how they'll try to do it.

I don't see this working out. When individual states throw heavy requirements or taxes on industries in that state, then those industries typically are able to push the cost down.
That’s normal

pollution
dirty air
do not deny it

fyi it is tissue, it is not a child, baby, or anything else. I know, I assist the Dr.
What's your carbon footprint? What's your level of consumption?

15th post
Any new tax on oil companies will be passed on to the consumer

I think the greenies are in for a disappointment
I think New York may be in for some higher prices. That is if the law is not stricken due to unconstitutionality.

And how is it that the end users are not bearing any accountability?

Think about it. New York does not have jurisdiction anywhere but in the state of New York. So if big oil companies don't sell their products in New York, New York has no standing to sue them over damages from naturally occuring weather events.
