Historian disagrees with comparison of ISIS to Crusades

The far right's moral relativists fail in their defense of the Crusades and their attempts to deflect unlink the barbaric historical parts of both violent Christianity and Islam.

Good on Obama and moral Americans that they can distinguish the jihadists from the those Muslims who are not and who condemn the jihadists.

We have supposed Christians burning Muslims alive in Africa. KKK and Aryan supremacist groups use the Bible to justify their evil ways.
^ that

BTW- the inquisition puts the other sect of monotheism (monotheism = judaism, islam, christianity for those ignorant of the fact) christianity in a rather bad light :eusa_whistle: :boohoo: The Horrors of The Church and its Holy Inquisition

Why are you debating something that happened before the United States was even a nation or America was discovered by Columbus.
Besides, you should be hammering the Vatican for this because this has absolutely nothing to do with America.

ISIS is doing worse now. You limp-wristed liberals want to rationalize it away.

One was a war to reclaim land and access to holy sites and the other is the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians and captured personal.
ISIS activists are extremists.

Whenever I hear people say muslim this muslim that I remind them of the Christian crusaders.

Then they usually say, well they aren't true Christians.

Which I respond, well then ISIS aren't true Muslims.

Sorry...the holy book of islam condones what they are doing....the teachings of Jesus do not condone the evil done in the name of God.....

Massacre of Jerusalem by christian savages
Jews fought side-by-side with Muslim soldiers to defend Jerusalem against the Crusaders] Saint Louis University Professor Thomas Madden, author of A Concise History of the Crusades, claims the "Jewish Defenders" of the city knew the rules of warfare and retreated to their synagogue to "prepare for death" since the Crusaders had breached the outer walls.According to the Muslim chronicle of Ibn al-Qalanisi, "The Jews assembled in their synagogue, and the Franks burned it over their heads."The Crusaders "[circled] the screaming, flame-tortured humanity singing 'Christ We Adore Thee!' with their Crusader crosses held high." However, a contemporary Jewish communication does not corroborate the report that Jews were actually inside of the Synagogue when it was set fire. This letter was discovered among the Cairo Geniza collection in 1975 by historian Shelomo Dov Goitein.] Historians believe that it was written just two weeks after the siege, making it "the earliest account on the conquest in any language."[However, all sources agree that a synagogue was indeed burned during the siege.

Yeah....so.....it was a barbaric time...and the muslims were just as violent and brutal as any other group......and again....we are talking a time of primitive peoples........and we are talking about 2015 muslim behavior.....there is no comparison....Chritian society grew up....muslim society has stayed barbaric..........how about we focus on this week....not the 12th century.........

the point is Christianity was and is not pure in its history

European christians extermination of Natives started with Christopher Columbus' arrival in San Salvador in 1492. Native population dropped dramatically over the next few decades. Some were directly murdered by Europeans. Others died indirectly as a result of contact with introduced diseases for which they had no resistance -- mainly smallpox, influenza, and measles.

Later European Christian invaders systematically murdered additional Aboriginal people, from the Canadian Arctic to South America. They used warfare, death marches, forced relocation to barren lands, destruction of their main food supply -- the Buffalo -- and poisoning. Some Europeans actually shot at Indians for target practice.

Oppression continued into the 20th century, through actions by governments and religious organizations which systematically destroyed Native culture and religious heritage. One present-day byproduct of this oppression is suicide. Today, Canadian Natives have the highest suicide rate of any identifiable population group in the world. Native North Americans are not far behind.

The genocide against American Natives was one of the most massive, and longest lasting genocidal campaigns in human history. It started, like all genocides, with the oppressor treating the victims as sub-humans. It continued until almost all Natives were wiped of the face of the earth, along with much of their language, culture and religion.

yeah...always have to wring as much as you can from the inquisition...how many victims did they hurt or kill....in the middle ages....vs. how many have muslims killed, in the same age....and thru today....or even last week....I would bet boko haram killed more people last month than the inquisition killed in it's entire existence.....

Christians took and sold slaves, Christians massacred civilian populations, so forth and so on.

Your argument would fail in any World Civ class. Stop your moral relativism
Stop your moral relativism?! Do you have any idea of the concept of irony.

FFS, everybody took and sold slaves and massacred. Some cultures and religions left that far behind. Only the most backward today still do, or burn people alive in the name of their God!You are an absolute bottom-feeder Jakey.

You are a moral relativist, trying to ignore the KKK, the Aryan nations, the Christian fascism of central and eastern Europe flogged on by Germany in the1930s and 1940s that chased down Jews and Orthodox and Romany, the Christians burning Muslims in Africa today.

Yes the bolded above demonstrates you would not last in a World Civ class.

WTF do you think you are?

Yeah, it was, physically and culturally. FO, your type is obsolete.

"I would bet boko haram killed more people last month than the inquisition killed in it's entire existence"

Probably not true, and if so adds nothing of worth to the debate.

IMO, it is rather silly to make such comparisons because times were completely different back in ancient times. People were more violent in general, not to mention a lot more superstitious and ignorant. This is no longer acceptable behavior in our modern world. There is the most basic difference and why it's stupid to compare the situations.

Ya cause pointing out that YOU comparing current actions of Muslims to actions committed hundreds of years ago is us be moral relativists, But you comparing actins from hundreds of years ago to defend Muslims today is not right?

No Jakey. nothing you've postulated adds up unless you're willing to go back 1000 years ago at least. Your dogma is far beyond any reasonable pale.

Slitting throats and burning captives live is surely in the realm of of Islam today.

So European culture should of stood in did nothing as it was invaded by islamic armies? You have to remember(if you understand history at all) that most of the middle east and northern Africa was part of a expanding(violent) expire!

"I would bet boko haram killed more people last month than the inquisition killed in it's entire existence"

Probably not true, and if so adds nothing of worth to the debate.

I'm sorry, but bringing up things that happened THOUSANDS of years ago is what would be irrelevant to anything to DO with today's world. Lol. Do you realize how silly your statement sounded, "adds nothing of value to the debate."? Seriously? And you think comparing events from thousands of years ago to what is happening today means . . . what? What does it even mean? What is the point?

Islam isn't about coexistence, its all about domination, even if it means death to the human race or anything else. Islam uber alles. Zeig ALLAH!

Who cares? What does that have to do with what is happening today with ISIS? It has nothing to do with it. Times were different then. People were more ignorant and controlled by Kings, etc. It was like a completely different world than what we live in today. BTW, Canada IS part of North America, so I don't know what you mean by Canadian natives and North American natives.

I would like to recommend something to all of you.

Spend a few hundred hours listening to:

Hardcore History by Dan Carlin

It's a free podcast. It puts some of this military shit into digestible bites. Of course.....if you are a delusional nutcase....you won't appreciate the awesome factual nature of what is presented. But...listen anyway.

"Historian disagrees with comparison of ISIS to Crusades"

And he's entitled to his opinion, however subjective.

The issue isn't comparing the Crusades to ISIS, however, as those who perceive such a comparison miss the point; the issue concerns the fact that all religions have had, and have now, a propensity toward violence, where that violence is committed by individuals, not religions – as the notion of a religion being 'violent' is ridiculous and inane.
