I posted this in another Pelosi / SOTU thread, but it doesn't hurt to have it again.

Pelosi lied that postponing the SOTU is the security issue, since she hasn't check neither with Secret Service, or DHS can they provide the security, which they stated it wouldn't be an issue.

Second, according to the Constitution, Article 2, Section 3. State of the Union, Convening Congress:

"He shall (President) from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States."

... President is within his constitutional rights, and Pelosi has no right to deny him a SOTU.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi escalated her fight with President Trump on Friday, accusing him of threatening her security when he publicly revealed her top-secret trip to Afghanistan.

Pelosi's spokesman accused Trump of posing a 'grave threat' to House Democrats' personal security in a statement on the postponed trip that invoked the warnings of his own State Department.

'After President Trump revoked the use of military aircraft to travel to Afghanistan, the delegation was prepared to fly commercially to proceed with this vital trip to meet with our commanders and troops on the front lines,' Drew Hammill explained.

'In the middle of the night, the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service provided an updated threat assessment detailing that the President announcing this sensitive travel had significantly increased the danger to the delegation and to the troops, security, and other officials supporting the trip,' he said.

'This morning, we learned that the Administration had leaked the commercial travel plans as well.'

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley declined to stop and talk to reporters after an appearance on Fox News about Pelosi's claims. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the charges, either.

President Trump had assailed Pelosi earlier in the morning, calling her cancelled trip to visit the troops an 'excursion' in a tweet that slammed her for trying to 'leave the Country' during a government shutdown.

Trump asked, 'Why would Nancy Pelosi leave the Country with other Democrats on a seven day excursion when 800,000 great people are not getting paid.

'Also, could somebody please explain to Nancy & her “big donors” in wine country that people working on farms (grapes) will have easy access in!'

Lol, her flying on a commercial flight would be a threat to her safety. I mean regular ctizens and the entire TSA would know where she was going.

tRump is and has been a huge threat to national security. Had she gone she, her staff, and our troops would all have been endangered by his leaky-ass lips.

Pelosi flying the grandkids to Afghanistan? Good grief, the woman is truly iinsane!

Pelosi disinvited Trump from giving his SOTU initially citing security concerns. Then Pelosi's undisclosed plan to Afghanistan with a congressional delegation of seven members, and numerous other family members totaling a party of 93 traveling on the taxpayers' dime was cancelled.

The assistant Secy of Defense for legislative affairs -- with a few exceptions -- has to sign off to military airlift support for congressional delegations (CO/DEL) . But, the president can intervene. As commander in chief, he has authority over the military. In a later OMB memo, all congressional delegations are now prohibited from using "government owned, rented, leased, or chartered aircraft" without the approval of acting White House COS Mick Mulvaney.

According to her press office, Pelosi tried to fly commercial but the State Dept updated its security threat assessment, deeming it to be more dangerous because of he decision to make the trip public. Citing these security concerns, the delegation canceled the trip. One stop included a visit to US military personnel in a war zone, so the speaker can't go without military assistance.

We could not find another instance where a president denied particular members of Congress their CODEL request. It's also unprecedented that a president would alert the public to CODEL travel plans to a war zone. According to Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill, raised the State Dept's threat level assessment. There is precedent for speakers preventing particular members of Congress from traveling overseas.

According to retired Rear Admiral and CNN analyst John Kirby, lawmakers were temporarily denied CODEL requests to war zones during Obama's tenure due to sequestration and security concerns from military officials. Though, Kirby noted, the ban applied to both Republicans and Democrats and did not single out a particular member of Congress, as Trump did before his administration issued a blanket ban.( BUT, Nanzi DIDN'T INVITE ANY REPUBLICANS to go with her on this PAID VACATION during a government shutdown!)
