Because right wingers have always preferred entertainment to news, and seldom draw any distinction between the two.
Read the right wing posts here (or anywhere else), and you'll notice several very consistant patterns.
First, they could care less who is talking to them as long as they hear what they want to hear.
BTW, that is corporate policy at Fox. Lie to the audience to entertain them. Has been since Roger Ailes started Fox in 1996.
Second, right wingers treat everything as a partisan domestic tribal issue. Even (and sometimes especially) when it is not. As if it were Survivor or WWF. They think the future of their country is a game show. (which is why having a carnival barker as President makes perverse sense!)
Third, they seem to think that news is an ongoing reality show, where you root for your tribe, rather than serious discussion about real issues, government, international events, or history.
It's a game to them. This is especially obvious as Trump's chickens are about to come home to roost. Right wingers always treat politics as an abstract. The outcomes are always going to happen to someone else.
