this is an explanation of the mortal/venial sin issue

From John 5:16

Especially see Paragraph 4

Weird how catholic discussions of sin sound like they were written by lawyers.

One of the most important parts of this writing

[Following is RE The sins that ARE unto death:]

The sin of apostates from the faith, who, having known the truth, and having had the full light and illumination to know God, afterwards fall from Him, is described by Saint Paul in the Epistle to the Hebrews, where he says, 'It is impossible for those who have been once enlightened, and have tasted of the Heavenly Gift, and of the good Word of God, and of the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to be renewed again unto repentance (Heb. vi. 6).'

In one word, all who are impenitent sin unto death. All those who, having had full light and knowledge of God in His revelation, with their eyes open, turn from it..

So, there is a difference between those who deliberately depart from Truth and those who "impetuously" sin without malice toward God or man
