Can anyone explain why anyone would care that the Clinton campaign intended to smear Trump by tying him to Russia?

That seems like a pretty normal thing for campaigns to do.

Sadly, yes.

But it is not normal, or certainly should not be normal, for the smeared candidate, who ends up winning in spite of the smear, to continue to be smeared by the U.S. intelligence agencies at the direction of the outgoing president.

It should never be normal for the U.S. Department of Justice to turn the smear into multiple investigation and prosecutions, all the while pretending that the smear is evidence.

That is what apoears to have happened, but as the investigations into the smear-turned-official-acts moves forward with thoroughness and deliberation, evidence may be brought to light that exonerates our previous senior intelligence and justice officials.

Obama and those allegedly involved in his plot to destroy Trump, will of course, be allowed to present evidence of their innocence. As we were reminded over and over throughout the various trump smears: if they are innocent they have absolutely nothing to worry about.
