Has anyone seen an estimate of how many people will die as a result of the USAID shutdown?

UMZIMKHULU, South Africa (AP) — At a rural village in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, unemployed 19-year-old Nozuko Majola is trying to figure out if she has enough money for the one-hour ride to collect her much-needed HIV medication, usually delivered to her home that can’t be easily reached due to rough, untarred roads.

Majola is one of millions of patients in South Africa affected by U.S. President Donald Trump’s global foreign aid freeze, raising worries about HIV patients defaulting on treatment, infection rates going up and eventually a rise in deaths.

In 2024, think tank Human Sciences Research Council released figures showing that Majola’s province recorded the second-highest HIV prevalence in the country, at 16%, with at least 1,300 young people estimated to contract the disease every week.

KwaZulu-Natal also had the highest number of people living with HIV in South Africa in 2022, about 1.9 million. The country counts more than 7.5 million people infected with the virus that causes AIDS — more than any other nation.

It may be too early to arrive at approximate numbers since the dust hasn't settled yet. Has anyone seen any guesstimates?

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — The Trump administration’s decision to terminate 90% of USAID’s foreign aid contracts slammed humanitarian projects worldwide on Thursday, from a new hospital in troubled Haiti to the biggest HIV program on the planet in South Africa.

Health groups, non-governmental organizations and others who received money from the U.S. aid agency to do good work had been bracing for bad news since President Donald Trump’s executive order froze the funding for a 90-day review on Jan. 20.

Maybe Elmo can help out. It’s his country
Oh wait. She’s poor and black

Nahhhh

South Africa needs help from white people?
I don't believe it.
Well, maybe they need help fighting crime and generating electricity?
Nah, I'm sure they'll be okay.
Maybe the Obamas can kick in some money?

U.S. Terminates Funding for Polio, H.I.V., Malaria and Nutrition Programs Around the World

Starting Wednesday afternoon, a wave of emails went out from the State Department in Washington around the world, landing in inboxes for refugee camps, tuberculosis clinics, polio vaccination projects and thousands of other organizations that received crucial funding from the United States for lifesaving work.

“This award is being terminated for convenience and the interest of the U.S. government,” they began.

The terse notes ended funding for some 5,800 projects that had been financed by the United States Agency for International Development, indicating that a tumultuous period when the Trump administration said it was freezing projects for ostensible review was over, and that any faint hope American assistance might continue had ended.

Many were projects that had received a waiver from the freeze because the State Department previously identified its work as essential and lifesaving.

The cruelty is the point.

Left-wing abuse of USAID funds cruelly exposed the decent programs to elimination.

USA is a monster for stopping the steal of monies . Plus the nerve to look into and discover it

Well, I did hear the WHO is stepping in where USAID would have in regards to disease outbreaks in Uganda and another nation, I can't recall which one. Meaning supporters of WHO will begin to earn goodwill with needy citizens or ones that will die without treatment. IOW, trump's shortsighted buffoonery has consequences.

Why wasn't the WHO paying for this stuff in the 1st place?
Liberals want to US to be the Worlds piggy bank, and on top of that they also support us getting screwed with trade.

You had an argument. Spewing hate is not an argument . I would tell you to have a shit day but your day- like all of your days - is already shit
Yes my day was shit, because I know that people like you are allowed to wander free and influence the world around me.

We aren't here to save the entire world while spending 36 trillion dollars more than we have.

Probably in the low to mid billions, right?

Without paying off foreign leaders, people will starve!

If we can't use undisclosed taxpayer money to fund Third World dictators and terrorists, are we still a Free Country?
Exactly.... it's 2 percent vaccination and 98 percent grift and graft.

In other words, how many people who should not be alive who have all been kept alive artificially only at my expense for which I see no benefit nor give any approval because their own country is unwilling nor able to.

Meantime, where is your estimate of all the lifes it will save here in the USA by keeping our money here to benefit its own citizens.

Proof once again folks that the democrat party is not an American party and we allow them back in power at our own risk.

In the 1990's, I worked as a pre-sales engineer for a well-known telecommunications vendor in New York. One of our customers was UNICEF HQ.

This well-known organization for which we used to collect pennies on Halloween every year was housed in a palatial office block on the East Side of Manhattan with more art work in the lobby and office spaces than The Lourve. They bought top of the line equipment without regard for the cost (as such were a well looked after client).

Every week, the Chief Information Officer (a "Palestinian") would summon field and sales engineers to his office (those who had Jewish surnames) to spend an hour yelling and berating them for their terrible service and subsequently place another order.

We put up with this because of the vast amount of donation money they spent with us.

Has anyone estimated how many people would give a fuck?
:slap:
All that crap is getting shut down. You're not stealing from Americans anymore, fuck off.
