can you tell me who the leader of this ancient country of Palestine was?
Shifting the goal post now, are you?

Palestine was the name off and on for thousands of years, as you well known.

Be accurate, please. Your denial by itself means nothing.

it was a label for a general area. This is well known. You claimed that there was a country called Palestine. A country would have a leader, a capital, currency etc. Can you provide that info about the historical country of Palestine?

🏛️ Historical Context

  • Ancient Times: The name "Palestine" was first used by the Romans in the 2nd century CE when they renamed the region of Judea to "Syria Palaestina" after suppressing Jewish revolts. This was not a sovereign nation but a Roman province.
  • Ottoman Period: For centuries, the area was part of the Ottoman Empire and was not an independent country. It was administered as part of larger provinces like Greater Syria.
  • British Mandate (1920–1948): After World War I, Britain governed the region under a League of Nations mandate. The term "Palestine" referred to a geographic area, not a sovereign state. Both Jews and Arabs living there were referred to as "Palestinians" in British documents

Modern Developments

  • Declaration of Independence (1988): The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) declared the establishment of the State of Palestine in 1988. This was recognized by many countries and later acknowledged by the UN General Assembly.
  • UN Recognition (2012): The UN upgraded Palestine to "non-member observer state" status, which is a symbolic recognition but not full statehood.
  • Current Status: As of late 2023, 138 out of 193 UN member states recognize Palestine as a state. However, it lacks full sovereignty, defined borders, and unified governance, with the West Bank and Gaza Strip under different authorities.

⚖️ Conclusion

Palestine has never existed as a fully sovereign, independent country with internationally recognized borders and governance in the traditional sense. However, it has been recognized as a state by a majority of countries and holds symbolic status at the UN. Its identity has evolved from a geographic designation to a political aspiration.

so no ancient country or nation. Unless you think 1988 is ancient. Good work.

I don't come to USMB for appreciation. I come to represent my religion and defend my ancestral homeland.

Really seems like USMessageboard has more Israel first foreigners and first generation imports than America first Americans these days.

Sadly, the place just ain't what it used to be.

And this ''Current Event'' doesn't sound like an American matter to me...

"Israel first foreigners" and "a first generation Israeli imports"? I have no idea what that means.

People who plop here and commence to using our political system to try to turn America into a mirror image of the country to which their actual allegiance belongs.

Importing all of the drama that occurs daily over in your ''homeland'' onto our soil and into our institutions for the purpose of creating flotsam and jetsam in an effort to influence and change our laws to accomodate foreign allegiance is but one example of this.

There's usually nothing but trouble everywhere the usual suspects show up, bringing their ''homeland's'' turmoil with them. All in the name of ''representing their religion and defending their ancestral homeland.''This is certainly not by accident.

And, of course, there are those who function from abroad with your standard cookie-cutter propaganda operations.

The whole lot needs to keep all of that shit over there where it belongs and has existed for thousands of years and where it will likely continue for thousands more, provided that the hooligans don't pop off a nuke.

I have never seen anyone like that.

Since I haven't seen that, I'll have to take your word for it...

My saying that has nothing to do with turmoil. But I did post it intentionally and not by accident. Any trouble you think is caused by that is a you problem.
