Hakeem Jeffries Threatens to Shut Down Federal Gov't

How about don't spend money we don't have?
So we agree that tax cuts are a bad idea when we are trying to bring the deficit down.
Don't pretend that you care about the debt. If you did, you'd stop voting for people who keep increasing it.
Agreed. It was ridiculous to reelect Trump after he ballooned our national debt by 7.8 trillion first time around.
He was responsible for the third largest debt increase (even before Covid) of any president in U.S. history.
It takes a special kind of stupid to fall for the line that now he's going to solve our deficit problem.

The House only has a two vote majority, so as you say, all the Republicans need to vote for it, looks good so far:
To bring conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus like Roy and Norman on board, GOP leaders tweaked their initial plan to require lawmakers to find $2 trillion in federal cost savings over 10 years.
If they fail to reach that goal, Republicans would have to pare back their planned $4.5 trillion in tax cuts by an equal amount, reducing the overall cost of the package, which has been a concern for fiscal conservatives. Conversely, if lawmakers find larger cost savings, they can pass larger tax cuts.

In the Senate, even the three RINOs are on board with the reconciliation Bill. Rand Paul is a wild-card.
The mostly partly-line vote came just before 5 a.m. ET following an all-night “vote-a-rama,” in which senators cast votes on 33 amendments over the course of a 10-hour span. The final vote was 52-48, with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., as the lone Republican to join all 47 Democrats in voting against the budget resolution.

In KY, the Beshear v Comer race will burn a lot of cash.
It might even beat the 2020 record of $300m set by Graham v Harrison.
A well-thought-out reply! Thank you!

The House votes on their "One Big Beautiful Bill" this evening (Tuesday).
They have 2 "Hard NOs" already. (Spatz, IN, & Burchett, TN)
One more NO and the Bill falls apart. Should be interesting tonight.

This is not really an edge of the seat nailbiter. When was the last time Congress excepted a presidential budget and said “oh yeah, this is exactly what we were gonna do. Let’s send it to the Senate right away!“

But I see the strategy. When the house votes the president‘s budget down as they almost always do, pretend like this is a huge deal and, let’s see how, will the media put it, “a stunning reputation of President Trump.”

No. Just “a stunning reputation of Trump.” I forgot they hate to call him the president. Or “a huge loss for Trump!”

Bring your popcorn and opera glasses, because this is going to be media theater at its best/worst.

"Hakeem Jeffries: GOP Budget a ‘Non-Starter,’ Every Single Democrat Will Oppose It

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) claimed Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that the Republican budget was a “non-starter” and would receive opposition from every Democratic lawmaker.

Host Jonathan Karl said, “Government funding runs out in less than a month now. We’ve seen over the past two years, Republicans cannot or have not been able to pass government funding without Democratic support. Some of your supporters on the outside are saying you should use as leverage, the possibility of a government shutdown to push back at some of what the Trump administration is doing right now. What will you need from Mike Johnson and from the Republicans to agree to go along with efforts to fund the government?”

He added, “What we have been clear about is that this budget that is working its way through the House of Representatives is a non-starter. Every single Democrat opposed it a few days ago, and I believe that will continue to be our position because it’s out of control.”"

Why does this Democrat want to shutdown the federal gov't? I thought they think a closed federal gov't endangers the people who depend on the govt.
Good to see congress functioning as intended.

I think you want the word "repudiation" not reputation.

The government shuts down in 2-weeks if Republicans can't raise the debt ceiling.

Democrats are waiting with their chainsaws if the GOP fails to pass their "Big Beautiful Bill"
