I have no idea where they put the firearms forum and I'm tired of searching for it so I'll restart this thread.

IMO, the 30-06 cartridge is the most asthetically pleasing of all. It's proportions are right, unlike the 300 Magnum which is like a Zika baby; big body, little head. The 223 Remington is a mini 30-06 but it's too small. The 30-06, when you hold it in your hand is an impressive thing. No rifle cartridge smaller than 30 caliber has that impressiveness.

As fast as pistols, the 44 Magnum and 45 Colt are impressive cartridges but they are like most pistol rounds, bland in shape.

IMO, the 30-06 is a thing of beauty.

Why the cannelure is not in the case? Did not seat the bullet yet?

I like my bullets starting on the lands and grooves. It is at the maximum length.

Does that improve accuracy?
Once I saved the brass from a specific 06 to reload them without resizing because they were the exact contour of the specific gun and I assumed improved accuracy. I checked the overall size, perfect. The next thing you know, it did not fit the chamber of the gun, WTF? I shot the cartridges through another 06.

When I started reloading, I read everything I could find on it. I found out there is a sometimes heated discussion on wether it's better to have the bullet starting in contact with the lands and grooves or not. People make claims to the accuracy of both.

I decided to make my first few cartridges at the maximum length and go to the range. Then I would shorten them until I got the most accurate results. My results were so good the first time, I have not changed the length since.

I was at the gun range today and saw this beauty. It's a Baretta PX3 Storm compact. I held it briefly. It feels great in the hand and is pretty light weight for a 40 cal.

The compact however, doesn't have the rotating barrel that the full size model does. I just like the look of the compact better.

I've been looking for a decent .357 for a good price. Today I ended up finding two!

Went to the little city near home to have a cellphone fixed for a relative. Since it was going to take awhile, I went to the local pawn/gun store for window shopping. They had a Taurus 65 .357 for a decent price in good condition. With my military discount, it turned into quite a deal. Going back to the cellphone store, they were still working on the phone and I noticed there was a new pawn shop right next door. It was small and only had a few guns but my eye quickly picked up a stainless steel Ruger .357 Blackhawk for about $200 under average used value. After looking at it, I saw that the barrel was dirty and there was some cruddy corrosion on the trigger guard. They wouldn't come down any more on the price when I pointed this out since, as they pointed out, it was already heavily discounted. Thinking to myself that this is stainless steel, I took a gamble and bought it. Sure enough, when I got home, a lot of Hoppe's and a elbow grease quickly cleaned it up. The barrel is mirror clean and the funky corrosion on the trigger guard is gone. The savings almost paid for the Taurus! Obviously, unlike my usual gun store/pawn shop, no one in this new store knew how to clean guns....or cared. Their loss and my gain. Happy Election Day tomorrow!
